A proper set up for a spring and hide combo or a "Spring pole". You should never set up a hanging spring pole. Ground tugs are the best for building overall muscle, stamina and mind set of the TRUE WORKING STYLE of the APBT.

    1. They get to train breathing exclusively through the nose while in hold
    2. They have resistance both forwards and backwards.
    3. They are never in the air and never at risk of injuring their backs or necks.
    4. They can spend Hours on this as compared to "Hanging spring poles"
    5. All you need is an axel and a spring.

I like a hanging pole as well as ground work .... I like to watch them hold there legs back when working.

The object of a springpole is not only to work the dog but simulate the general conditions that the dog will be working in. I dont know about the conditions shown in the photo as being common to the type of work that these dogs do, in most cases the dogs in actual work are not moored down low to the ground on all fours pulling directly backwards or forwards. On a hanging springpole the dog can move up and down, side to side, on 2 legs or 4 if they drive hard pulling the hide to the ground. The reason the dog can work this ground setup for hours is because its not really very hard work compared to the PROPER springpole setup. People have been working these dogs for a couple hundred years (at least) on hanging springpoles and if done correctly it simulates actual work conditions, just because some yahoo with show dogs wins a couple ribbons useing this new method doesn't mean shit in the real world where dogmen work dogs for more than prance about contests.

I have a spring and things on both ends and I give one end to one dog and give the other to anonther dog and they get a workout that way. When they hang on one that is up in the air I use a fishing pole and I tap there legs will talking to them.
