Agreed. By the way BootsPitty I'm not knocking your dogs. I love Staffords! If you're interested check out this site: Sporting Bull and Terrier. click on the heading: TWO WRONGS, scroll down and you will see A real STAFFORD! sent to the USA by Joe Mallen in the 1920s. Sorry but I don't know how to post the picture.

i agree it does look like a fine dog , obviously bred with a job to do and not just to look nice !

Jacko the dog is built to breathe, isn't it? A longish muzzle with very little stop and deep through, a longer body for more agility and flexibility. There is nothing exaggerated about this dog.

you about summed it up ! but i would say that there are and have been some very capable dogs with more distinct "stops" and shorter muzzles ...

Yes those type of dogs can be very hard-mouthed and destructive. I just feel that the longer muzzled dogs usually have better wind. I actually feel sorry for the show-type staffords, some of them have plenty of fire but their conformation puts them at a disadvantage straight away.

  8. this dog in the last pic is a bull and terrier its an ancestor to the stafford . the term "staffordshire bull terrier" was given to the dogs by the K.C just before they went about ruining the breed, i have very little time for K.C staffs but i do like a good stafford from working lines . heres a couple of pics i got from another site of some dogs from the "Dublin Red Strain" this line is one of the closest if not the closest to the origanal stafford! i know looks should'nt come into it but to me this is what a stafford should resemble.

Actually the picture is titled " black country pit bull terrier" and I probably shouldn't have used the term "stafford". However the dog pictured is from the late 1920s, only six or seven years before K.C. recognition, hardly an ancestor, is it? I've no doubt that this type were still around after the Kennel Club accepted the breed but the stockier Cradley Heath dogs were favoured for the showring.

sorry guys the bottom two lines escaped somehow! lol

  12. My staffys are quite short legged , not the long leggy type. If they were to loose weight they would be classed as underweight!
They are not the 'typical show standard stafford' however they are not K.C or IKC reg! They are not 'worked'. They are just my pets. Everyone has their own opinion on how a dog should look, each to their own. Im perfectlly happy with all of my dogs weights. And there's nothing wrong with dog burried in the sand , a bit of fun , he actually had a ball.

they are nice little dogs you got mate, as long as they are healthy thats the main thing, dogs dont have to be "ripped" and showing a lot of rib ect to be healthy. im sure you know what a real over weight dog looks like and to me they dont look too over weight, trouble is too many people think a dog should have the "conditioned" look to them all the time, truth be known not everyones dogs are as conditioned and looking as perfect as they think they are. ALL internet forums are the same everyone has an opinion that they are entitled too but everyones opinion is right.

  17. ^ Oh i know i should have been more percise with my comment , i was replying to the comment that said 'sry weight on them make me cry'.

I personally regarding staffies dont like to see alot of 'ribs'.
