The best squirrel dog!

Discussion in 'Sports & Activities' started by Primitive Supply, Feb 12, 2014.

  1. If they are imprinted properly and trained repetitively, the APBT can be the best small game catch dog on the planet. I happened to know Maurice Carver and spent time with him on his Hill back when I was just getting my start. He once said "The APBT can do anything any other dog can do, and after he does it he can then whip that dog" I am not sure it was his own quote or he told it too me second hand, but, I never forgot those words. I believe them to be true...PS

  10. They come down through my Uncle Bud/ with the Hedges CB. Which is Bullyson over Miss Spike. As Mad&Skip we got our start with Joe Testiment, Shorty the Preacher, and Johnny Walker Red. made champions out of all of them and started our blood based on that foundation. Truth be known, as Mad&Skip we carried Bert Sorrells for the last 20 years of his dog career......PS

Great to see the dogs being used in field work. I am not from the US so I don't know the type of country you hunt in but for small game like you mention the common dog would be some kind of purpose bred lurcher. Usually with a greyhound/whippet base and perhaps Manchester Terrier or APBT,Deerhound for larger game.

Mad and Skip arent you the actual breeders of GR CH Uncle Bud ? I heard Uncle Bud would hang out with your 2 Rat Terriers ..Just trying to bring some old history back up that some people may not have known.

  17. Never had any Rat Terriers. although Uncle Bud would not catch any dog unless I told him to. He was strictly a pit fighter, as was his Daddy CH Joe Testiment....PS

I love seeing dogs/being worked, the only reason i neverlet mine go after squirrel is im not taking mine off leash for about anything. Plus i hate breaking up scuffles. The smallest bitch we have looks like a rat terrier i lol, but i bet she'd be killer

  19. YES! Bamaman Mad&Skip are the breeders of Uncle Bud. We also are the ones that made a three X winner out of him. As well as Ch. Joe Testiment, Uncle Bud had a brother that was a two X winner, and was bitten by a cotton Mouth Moccasin and it killed him. Broke our heart. He was just as good as Uncle Bud. Made champions out of Rasin, Sailor, Johnny Walker Red, Bubba Boe, Hard Eyes, and the list goes on. There was a time that Mad&Skip were very close friends with Bert and Joanie Sorrells. But Bert, I think, got a little insecure about all of the wins, and We had a big breakup of the partnership. As Mad&Skip, we continued on for about 7 or 8 more years before we got out of the game. By that time Bert was Peddling puppies that weren't worth being called APBT. Soon after Bert got out of the game.As Mad&Skip we are still friends with Joanie, and still trade dogs back and forth with her. Her blood is the same as ours. I have a friend out in NM. That was a handler for Bert back in the 60s and 70s, He still has a bunch of that same blood also. UncleBud, Joe Testiment, STP, Shoshone, Johnny Walker Red, Roadblock, Raisin, the list goes on and on. Got alot of Sorrels Bull over Miss Spike, and ZEKE over Bullyson. PS

  20. I also wanted to say that in His day Bert Sorrells handled, conditioned, and bred some of the best dogs that ever looked through a collar. He had a natural talent too breed good match dogs, that were winners in the pit, and purple ribbon in the show ring. PS
