The great bruce

Just wondering if anyone has any old pictures they could share of multi badger certificate winner O' Donnell's ''BRUCE'' ?

 

O'Donnell, didn't own that dog, ...

 

The Great Bruce
Sire: Frazier of Ireland Dam: Mandy of Dublin

"The Great Bruce" was one of the greats in the Irish badger trials,winning 15 certificates of gameness,known as "Teastas Mor". I believe he was brother to Ch.Red Warrior, who was brought to England by M.Dann. Bruce also found his way to England in the 1980s, he was also known as "Wolf Island Warrior. The trials were conducted strictly within the law,and a veterinary surgeon was present at all times with all trials carried out in natural setts.The dog must stay at the badger for at least 5 minutes and must not bark while in contact with the badger. They were all governed by strictly enforced Irish Kennel Club rules at that time. Wheaton terriers,Glen of Imaal and kerry blues also competed in the trials along with the Stafford and a few English Bulls. Cross breeding of these dogs was also undertaken only of course,if both dog and bitch were proven game. On the following pages are more photo's of some of the great Irish badger dogs of those times...........................(Badgers are now a protected species in the U.K and Ireland and their setts must not be disturbed by man or his dogs).

 

Thanks for sharing that. I had heard of a few sporting SBT's but Bruce was the only one I could remember off hand only cause I have an uncle Bruce lol. Thanks again.

WOLF ISLAND WARRIOR AKA THE GREAT BRUCE

 

You the man. I see I was indeed wrong about Mr. O' Donnell breeding/owning Bruce. An older man I once worked with was from Ireland and often spoke of these dogs to me. O'Donnell was a name he used a lot, it was a mistake on my part. If it rubbed any fancier the wrong way, my bad.

lol ahh. My knowledge is in pitbulls but I have to say I have always had an interest in the SBT and that old fella I worked with had some great stories. He really knew those dogs.
