The great pup price debate.

That's my style, too. lol My first breeding produced mainly blacks, but I was waiting for the red/fawn dog. I was praying to god "damn, send me my male finally !" lol
Number 6 of 8 was my male. And then there was this guy ... said he want to buy the dog. Hell no !
I later just told him to triple up the regular price ... and the idiot said 'ok'.
I just took the money to buy me my first well bred pup. And I ONLY paid 1500 + 250 for paper work. lol
They have made the same breeding 4 times, and I picked my male of the 2. breeding. And what can I say, I got the best of all 4 breedings, of course.
There was lots of good dogs to choose from at that time. The sire of my male was a son of Ch Chinaman ... not soo bad to start with. The bottom was heavy Clouse already. The first sign ?
Another point of that story is that I kept a black female instead of 'my' male. Could not give her away, because she was so special.
Freak quality, but that's just the way she was bred ... as I learned later. lol
That's how it goes at times, you never know. :D

That's the question. Dogs can be also checked without going out and hunt. This can also be done privately. When hunting you seldom go into 2 or 3 hogs, but that is possible in privat at the final check. In that case I would stick with the 'old' source for sure. Just looks more solid to me. If he does not even school and check anymore then the next guy comes into play ...
That's exactly my (future) problem. The breeder passed ...
In my case I know for sure who's pups are more valuable. I would be happy already if I can get something that is at least of 'enough value'.
I do not wanna pay for mistakes someone else did. I wanna pay for my own faults. lol
I would kill for a bro x sis breeding >:)

Bro x sis breedings don’t produce the best from what I’ve seen. It’s like running in place, you aren’t adding, subtracting, or anything imo. All they are is a reshuffle of the same cards you have in your hand...

Actually $300 was for everybody for the longest time. If he liked you the dogs were placed with you. The only string attached was that when you were thru with them for whatever reason, and I reiterate, for whatever reason, they must be returned.

It was not a bad deal.

Well, that's the way it goes when it is about preserving the blood.
No need to add, subtract or anything imo. Reshuffle the cards sounds good to me ... and with 'you have in your hand' even better. lol
It's not my main goal to get 'better' dogs. I am very happy with the 'old' standard.
But this is just my way. You may choose another route. And that's ok.
And I can tell you, I'm also not the biggest fan of breeding bro x sis. But sometimes ...
Do you think going into a bro x sis bred dog is a safe bet ?

There will always be need to add at some point. You can only inbreed or line breed for so long before genetic issues will start popping up.

You must know something the rest of us don’t. If gameness was as easy to get and keep as you said, a lot more ppl would have game dogs than they do. Yes, imo, gameness is a trait, it’s not a gene or anything as simple as that. What would you call it?

Preserving gameness is the ONLY way in the long run!!! Without gameness these dogs are bigger Staffie Bulls or smaller Amstaffs, but sometimes uglier...

Breeding, again imo, is about getting complete animals, not just game ones. That includes mouth and ability. I’ll take game, ability, and mouth in that order please. Stamina and wind can be added to a single dog, mouth and ability can’t.

You can’t argue with that. He sell for the low, stand by his stock, AND you can recycle with him?!?! That deal almost can’t be beat

I've only paid that little for a pup 1 time, my first APBT ever from D.C.of Heavily Armed Kennels in Pittsburgh. Turned out to be a game bum but was still the best 300 I ever spent on a dog. Lol. That boy was a rocket on the scratch. No wind, no ability and average mouth but he'd meet you in your corner when we released. Garner/carver/ heinzl bred mutt. Grandson of Spike.

I agree. Your looking for the total package not just the most important quality. Gameness is worthless more times than not without some mouth, wind or ability. You'll end up with a dead gamedog.

I also view it as a trait not a gene.
