I reposted the photo from another bulldog forum mate.. Personally don't know (or care) if it's Frank Henry or Lenny Henry, just hoped the pic might contribute something to the thread.

I have seen it before also.
I find it interesting that someone had not added a picture of Mr. Henry previously than I had seen this one a year or so ago. I question it's origin and if it is in fact Mr. Henry.
Just odd that ho pictures of him are on any pedigrees of his, not his old adds.

Some more info to look at.
Before anyone jumps off on the it is...or ain't fake..., I have researched dogs of this era and had never seen a picture if this man until last year...so that I find off.....

I was also surprised to see that pic. Mr. Henry is almost a myth or more of a ghost to me. Info about him is hard to get.
And now, 100 yrs later, the first pic of him comes up ... strange.
What could be the reason for posting a fake pic like that ... of a guy from 100 yrs ago ? Just for fun ?
    @Dusty Road
I don't know if the pic is fake or not, I have no idea. I think it's fake, but ...
You wrote it's not Frank Henry, or at least not the dogman Mr. Henry that we are talking about.
    What's your proof ? ? ? =P~ :> 8-| :D

    Who knows??
Interesting. I do think that is a Colby harness..but could be wrong. Maybe Corvino...?? . The dog on left seems smaller size and Irish type, one on right the English.
Some had questioned the English influence but I see it well in these pictures... regardless of who the man is or is not. ..the fog looks like the famous Imported Richmond
Be nice to know which dogs are in the picture also..I'll add that.
Maybe someone can share more info as the see..

I don't have a clue who is that sharp looking gentleman in above photo? Don't know too much on early foundations of the breed either? But that photo intrigued me and got me thinking just how much influence and contribution over the years came from African/American dogmen? When I first got into dogs, the only names I heard was Colby, Tudor, Corvino, Heinzle, Sparks etc etc.. Carver, Boudreaux, Hall, Mayfield etc etc, never a black man in sight, then I heard about Thibodeaux, Glover, Stubblefield and Abrahams etc etc and now I realise some of the best in the world were/are in kennels owned by African/Americans.. Obviously good/great dogs in other kennels too, just the photo got me thinking about and thankful for the contribution of black breeders that's all.

I realise this an Earl Tudor thread, never intended any hijack or disrespect.

The name of this dogman is in your name-list. But I guess you know ...
Isn't it strange how much most of us do not know about what's going on in the game ?
It was so damn hard to get any good info about the game/history etc. before the www.
Who got the sdj without a reference ? I have sent letters overseas filled with money, and crossed fingers, to buy books and journals.
Sometimes it worked well, sometimes not so well. Could not wait to get the new sdj and when I got it I was 'off' for a day or two.
But the good old times are gone, now we get our info online. All it takes for some little fun is posting a pic.
Some people are surprised, but happy, to see that pic ... next one comes up ... 'FAKE !' Who can we still trust ?
But, to be honest, I really was surprised to see that Mr. Henry was a black man, I clearly got another picture of him in my head.
And now I think he was black ... 30 yrs later :-O :-?

I believe the Henry dogs were well known for their mostly english influence. And if that's not Mr. Henry, then it does not matter what the dogs look like, I guess.
Yeah, more info would be great. But we are here, I don't know, still maybe 10 more or less active members, so the odds are ... :-/

The dogman I referred to was the old original photo I posted, guy with the top hat and 2 white bulldogs who may (or not) be Frank Henry.. I already knew the other one.. Apologies for confusion!

Iv no clue why some put fake info on the photo , but there are photos of Frank Henry , and thats not him , Iv also seen that photo , gives his name saying the man is an intern at some hospital

Where can we find photos of Frank Henry ?
A dogman can also be an intern in his 'real' life, so ... :-?
The pic shows a man and 2 dogs, so ... :-?
2 white dogs with cropped ears ... ? I know, different times ...
If that's Mr. Henry ... are those dogs also Henry dogs ? Would this be his 'foundation' dogs ?
Or did he become a 'real' dogman just later in time ... with 'new' dogs ?
    Kinda confusing for sure ~X(
I know, it does not matter that much what has been 100 yrs ago, I just like that history shit. Too much of free time, I guess /:):D

There most certainly have been some great contributions to our breed from black men over the breed's history. if you look into the Colby book and history of the Colby bloodline you would know that Mr. Johnson a world-renowned boxer also a black man had dogs from mr. Colby there are pictures of then together in black and white.. of next era.
The issue was not the color.of the man. ..but the info on it also seems off if you have studdied some history of that era. I won't point that bit out..you all may see it..and may not. There were only so many dog men of those years. If you were not known..well there would be little info to be found.
But those that were playing then ..knew of each other..and corresponded..and history was recorded. Things may not have been much to matter than..as they are not now.
Any man can certainly love dogs.

As I've said above my point in questioning the photo was not due to the mans ethnic background, it was due to previous history that I had studied and the fact that I had not seen the picture until recently. I can remember the first time I seen it on Facebook and exactly who posted it. I try not to look at men and judge them on their appearance good bad or ugly this including color.

There was a black author who wrote several books on the bulldog, including one on the Colby dogs. The Colby book I had & have only ever saw that copy anywhere. I forget the title, but may have been on another breeder also. Pretty sure I have a letter somewhere from him. Byron Fortenberry was his name if I am remembering correctly. If he fed bulldogs I really don't know, but I bet that book is highly collectible.........

Oldguy you always bring out the best in history George Saddler my very favorte dog fighter kept to himself , a bussiness man , great conditioner , hard gambler, now my favorite breeder is of all time is Bill Lightner bred some of the gamest bulldogs around at any time in history my dogs carry his blood through Rocca's Cherry Bomb " Hang Tuff "

Thanks DISCOIII.. I appreciate that, but really I know little on origins of the breed.. I have some decent written references to draw from, but never get around to reading the stuff.. Shameful really! I found a nice article on the Mississippi Hawk (George saddler) in December 2010 issue of SDJ.. These men are legends to me! I wouldn't care what dog they sold me, or what was written on the pedigree.. I'd bet on the man who bred them, that's all I would need to know.. I admire them immensely.. No claims of dogs that won 10 generations ago or bit a dog in the park 3 generations ago, just pure unadulterated gameness in both men and their dogs.. Either you bred to it, or matched it, either scenario was acceptable and available.. some examples below.. God bless the dogmen of the post war years!
