    the paragraph:

"signs of non-functional selection, extreme, incorrect, out of standard and justified only by fci pedigree, and those that mask the junction with the bulldog and the pug from show/expo"

the pics depict the cross of the old pit dog with the bulldog and as a result the show sbt of today

Why are so many people on here so against show staffords,
There not all short legged barrels in fact I haven't seen many of that type around these days.
The ones I have seen in shows are slim well muscled agile and very game. Why do you think the so called working type are so much better, there just taller smaller heads and thinner?

    Please explain

look around, experience both, compare and you will find the best answer to your question.

If you could prove the underlined, I'd eat my shorts. Those dogs are about as game as my parent's old mixed breed. They've been bred for show for generations.

i got to thinking and to give you a better point of my view: for instance take american idol, two contestants, kelly clarkson and william hung. lots of dumb fanatics bought tons of hung's cd's and i dare to say maybe more than clarkson. you watch and compare them both singing. are they both idols? yes. at the same level? no

    working stafford > showline stafford

very game ? do you actually know what gameness means in the context of these dogs ? if you do then you will realize how absurd your post was.

i do think a lot of these working types are no better though , bred to look at or jump an a frame, the only real working types are dogs bred from tested dogs.they may have smaller heads and are more racy in appearance but their appearance is unimportant and not what they were bred for.its a pity there are not more about.

That hits the nail on the head for me i always thought a lot of these old types was in danger of going to far in the right direction n pass the objective by so to speak

i always say aframe, flirtpole, etc.. are just for the dogs to have fun, appearance i could care less but physical balance is very important to me. again the desire may be there but the limitations a low slung, short muzzle dog, barrel chested a dog has will make it have second thoughts. and even sadder when the dog is crossed to an inferior breed

Can I just say in no way am I against the working type, I think they are all amazing dogs in their own rite. As for gameness my interpretation of it is a game dog, (or person) will never quit no matter what. Any dog or person will fight if they are winner but it takes a special creature to keep fighting a long losing battle and still want to go back for more.

I hope I haven't offended anyone with my comment.

so how can you say the ones you seen at shows are very game dogs, have you seen them taking a shellacking from another dog and keep going ?

No, you sometimes see a couple get at each other but are seperated quickly...I should have said they appear to be game...sorry my bag.

It makes me sad to see staffords wider than they are tall. A lot of the show lines today, has not only lost their gameness but also their functionality. I myself have a show stafford. He is 45cm at the shoulder and game. And I do not only mean aggression, if challenged he would love to fight even if losing. But the next time we will get an old tyme stafford, even though he is a great stafford. Here in Norway there are some great show staffords, but the majority of breeders are only breeding for show, sadly. But luckily we don't see to many of the fat and extremly wide ones. I think there are lot of great show staffords, but the reason behind breeding them is entirely wrong and people seems to have forgot how staffords should be both in mentality abd physically.

I do not think that old tyme are better, when you compare the best with the best, but breeders of old tyme and sporting staffords seems to breed for the real stafford and it's traits, and therefore more of them are good staffords. I hope that breeders that only breed for show and "looks", one day will understand that they are ruining and old and perfect breed.

What facinates me about the breed is their mentality (gameness), can be used to almost everything and their affection towards their family, strength and the fact that even most show staffords can beat dogs even twice their size if challenged to fight.

Sorry, but you got the wrong idea of what gameness is..
