It seems to me that nowadays, a lot of people have 80+ lb. "pitbulls." However, when one states their dogs are 24 inches in height, 80+ lbs., 28 inch chest, 26 inch head, etc. we all automatically state that the dog is a mix or an ambully. However, there have been some huge dogs back in the day, let's not forget patrick's tombstone, a 70# dog or Earl Tudor's Black Jack jr., an 80# dog that left nothing alive in the pit. So this has gotten me thinking, what is the upper limit in size. What is considerd genetically too tall or too big to be a real deal bulldog? I am not one of these persons that would question the word of a stranger and questions that their dogs are not apbt, despite being slightly larger. However, I do believe that if you say you have a 100 lb. dog with a 26 inch head, 24 inches tall, and bloodline is oh, let's say Dagger or Camelot, then I'd say you have a mastiff mix, not trying to be a prick here but that is just the way it is. So the question is, what is too big to be gentically possible to be a bulldog in weight and more importantly, height since obese dogs would definitely way more.

Personally, I like the small catchweight dogs from 50-55#. I don't see a need for a 60# dog, even for catchwork since 50-55 is more than sufficient. The larger the dog, the harder it is to maneuver in thick bushes. Though I have never heard of anything over 80 lbs. being pure.

Well often times, people speak about having 100+ "pitbulls." Well most of us knows that 100 lbs. is most likely not an apbt, not a healthy one anyways. Obese maybe, but a conditioned/show weight apbt at 100 lbs., that is hard to believe. This is why I brought out height since even a 50 # bulldog can be made into a 90 lb. dog if you overfeed and don't exercise the dog. However, height is also important too. You can have a dog in his ideal weight that isn't obese and weigh in at 100 lbs. if it is mixed. There are some XXL bullies out there that are 100 lbs. and in their ideal weight. They are actually healthy animals that can move, but definitely not apbt. This is why I brought up height and weight.

First dog is Mayday, yes he is a Big boy, he won't be winning any beauty pageant contest anytime soon, but I'll feed is Ugly ass any day of the week.

Second dog is what we call the " Blue Hippo " type. I think he's even more uglier then Mayday, only thing I would feed his Blue ass is some bullets.

Let me try to answer this in a mature way. As you know by now this breed comes in all colors and sizes. The showcase dogs are bred for their size and their color the
" Blue Hippo " type is showcase. There has been a few big one's like Black Jack Jr. but he wasn't bred for his color, size , or big toe nails. There's a Huge difference between a big game dog and a big showcase dog.

  17. The difference is dogs that people are talking about and labeling an ambullies based on size on these forums were BRED for size. Of course a freak catchweight APBT can come along, but today breeding for size is a fad so you see a "90 lb" pit bull and you can pretty much be sure it was bred for that size intentionally (ie outcrosses, breeding for size to size not performance, etc).

It is a pretty simple common sense question honestly.
