This may be quite a long shot but here goes. I live in the UK now in the boonies that is west suffolk. I'm originally from New Jersey so I have no outdoors experience other. Than the Air Force. I want to know more about hunting with my mutt to me at least she seems very eager to search and chase things. If anybody doesn't have anything better to do and wants to learn me a few things.

  2. You need to do some live trapping for some small game. Depending on what you want your gyp to catch. It can be multiple types of small game. rabbits, squirrels, rats, etc. Releasing your gyp multiple times with live game will imprint her, if she is started young, 6 mos. or so. Repetitive release and catch efforts will give you the results that you want. All of these efforts HINGE on having a well bred APBT or possilble well bred patterdale terrier. PS

There is shit loads of squirrels round my house I'm a two minute walk up the road from the river. I haven't seen any rabbits but in sure they're around. I was walking through the Forrest with her and she got fixated on trying to catch a fawn but that thing was crafty and I didn't know if anyone was around with their dogs.

PS I do admire your pitchers of hunts you've done and I subscribed to your youtube channel. Any tips on how to set these traps?

kjaquez you need to learn the law in the UK first, it's nothing like the US. If you do trap and release as suggested by Primative Supply keep your mouth shut, it's illegal to release a dog on any trapped animal here. It's best to keep to legal quarry on land where you have permission to hunt and make sure your dog is broken to stock.

I'll definitely google that I didn't know that. What about pheasants ? Can I snatch one of them up? Forgive my greenness what does it mean to have my dog broken to stock? Like familiar with what farm animals not to bother with? I have a landowner in mind who I'm close and comfortable with.

Stock broke means it won't chase stock. Cows horses sheep. Livestock. To be truly broke u should be able to walk thru hundreds without it careing they are there. When they run ur dog should still dtill ignore them.

  11. When I discuss a live trapping and imprintation of a game bred dog, I am talking about private property. I would not do that type of thing on public land or management land. Private Property ONLY! There are nuisance vermin like Rats, and squirrels that are legal to catch year round. Squirrels can and will destroy a house if they happen to get into one. I have seen it happen. Then had the owners ask me too help them get rid of the squirrels. PS

I have a friend who owns a pig farm and a few acres and although he has no crops he does have many pests he has some dogs just some Labradors and stuff pets but I'm sure he'll allow me to do w.e on his land however I've no method is why I ask.

According to the law chasing a scent isn't illegal and as long as I've express permission in his land I'm straight.

A man got sent to prison and I think a 14k fine for doing something similar in the UK a few years ago.

OP,just go somewhere overgrown and let your dog hunt up,just make sure it's good with stock and has a decent recall.

but still don't get caught lol
