Weight Pulling

I wonder, nobody seems to pull here or talk about it? Why? Is actually no one of you guys pulling? IMO gamebred dogs are the best breed for weight pulling and my dogs really enjoy it. Still learning about the sport and unfortunately there is no wp board available, so where can I get knowledge?

My biggest question now is, at what age you put pressure on a pup? At what age a young dog (puppy) can be seriously pulled in competitions? In ADBA you can start with 9 months of age, but can a pup be strong already at that age? Or is this just additional track time?

 

I pull/drag weight to add strength and power. I've seen pulldogs start when they can be separated! The earlier the better. No weights just pullin the harness. Pulling is not like hunting were the conditioning gets you ready for the hunt. The hunt and the conditioning aren't the same. Pulling weight gets you ready to pull weight. By the time they are 6 months or so they should be used to the harness and the drag. Then add a sled maybe, then weight IMO. Good luck if you're pulling in the future

 

Thank you for your answer! My pup is doing great, he will be 7 months in a few days and already pulls the cart like the adults (of course less weight). Only thing I "miss" is the form and the digging. He don't know yet how to dig and have a good form, but he is with me now less than a month so I guess (and hope) he will learn it. Will that come with time? My 2 dogs I pull with I started as adults. They do fine but the male had to learn more, the female got it soon.
