Puppy food? Raw? If puppy food when do you make the transition to adult dog food? I'm just curious about others feeding habits because I'm sure there are as many answers as there are dogs.

I feed Diamonds Puppy. Up until around 12 months. Then they get Diamonds Naturals. I used to feed Taste of the wild as an all life stage diet. Pregnant females, whelping pups other adults, geriatrics, all of them. Gets expensive though as your numbers increase. Diamonds works well for me.

I'm feeding Earthborn Holistic for now to every dog. My oldest is almost 3. They seem to like it. Doesn't require much and not a lot of stool. The raw was nice but just to damn time consuming at times but I loved it....they drank way less water. I still toss them raw chicken quarters as snacks from time to time tho. As more enter the yard things will change but not to much..

4health or Taste of the Wild. Agree with AGK. I got 3 and they'll run through a bag. Find the cheapest, BEST, dog food you can afford. My partner fed his 2 EVO as often as he could. I can only afford to feed that good when we have a goal or date set

I feed all mine, pups and adults 4health Puppy for over 2 years now. The amount of feed is less for adults than for the pups. 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 cups for a 60# dog. There's less stool to shovel and they like it. I supplement weekly with Flaxseed oil and Coconut oil on separate days.
    Works for me and mine.

I've tried many highly rated kibble and Victor Hi Pro Plus is by far my favorite. Cheap, great coat on the dog, and reduced shits all while feeding lower amounts. EG My 50+lber only gets fed 2- 2.25 cups per day, maybe 2.5 cups on a heavy work day.

Yes, there are many opinions on puppy diets. I don't introduce raw until about 10 months, when the digestion is a little stronger. But I did add cooked animal proteins to the kibble and other natural foods - like yogurt, unflavored pumpkin.

As far as kibble, I feed Orijen adult. Even when they were pups.

Raw meat is the superior food though.

What age do you start with the raw chicken legs?

  15. I just got a pup 3 days ago, the breeder fed Purina pro plan but I can't get the pup to eat, he likes raw but I've heard bad things about it. How do you feel about boiled chicken?

Make sure he's not sick he may need time to adjust to his new home. Boiled boneless chicken breast should be good. Congratulations on your new pupp.

Be honest with yourself, unless you're really gonna stick with a raw diet and all that it entails, just get a good puppy kibble and then switch to an adult formula around 9 or 10 months.

You can add some things to the kibble, such as yogurt, ACV, cottage cheese, eggs, olive oil etc... to enhance the nutritional value, but keep in mind that the more protien you add you'll have to find an additional calcium source to compensate to keep the bowl movements solid.

Make no mistake, IMO, a complet and successful raw diet is superior in every way. It's just a little more expensive and time consuming.

I've found it cheaper to feed 5 pups raw than kibble.
