what does neutering do

when it comes to conditioning?? My last dog was intact and he had a lot more fire and would go and go when we would condition. Sage is going to be neutered soon and I'm wondering if that will affect that, and could he reach the same potential as far as being physically fit and toned? He doesn't have much drive to do anything except spring pole. You should see him try to fetch lol, I throw the ball.. he goes half way, gets distracted, and I have to tell him to fetch again before he'll bring it back! I just really want him to have all the nice muscles in the thighs, shoulders and such that makes them look so amazing because I can tell he should grow up to be real pretty, his dad was one of the best looking pits in Sioux Falls I had seen, and there are more pits around there than one would think!

Neutering, aka castration, removes the testicles completely from the dog's body. With the testicles gone, there is a vast reduction in testosterone.

With that said, neutering will not make your dog fat nor will it take away the dog's drive (except for innate sex drive ). I'm not saying there isn't a difference, but the average owner would never know.

Many of our catch dogs are spayed & neutered mainly because a) we don't use that as a justification for breeding, b) those dogs weren't considered in our breeding program for one reason or another, & c) so we can hunt with them year round without having to give the bitches time off due to heat cycle & so our males would be less likely to notice, care, & fight over a bitch in heat that was out there on a hunt somewhere.

A neutered dog is what YOU make of him.

my house dog was nuetered 4 weeks ago, nothing for a week, then gradually his behavior has changed noticeably. he sleeps more, listens better and is generally seeming to be a better house dog. i did notcie, and so did several of my friends that have seen him recently, that his muscle mass has been reduced and the "hardness" he exhibited in his musculature has also softened quite a bit. his shoulders arent as widened as they were, and his rear legs which used to be tree trunks have shriveled to a noticable level.


IMO, it does have a profound effect on the animals behavior and physical characteristics, but im not sure sure it would be as noticable in breeds that are as short haired and naturally ripped like a pitbull. also most animal owners dont knwo thier animals well enough to notice crap like that, i can tell right away if something aint right with my animals.
