why don't apbt look like the dogs that first came over from england & ireland

    You're forgetting one thing, back in the day the name of the game was most likely winning not Gameness. The winner was most likely the dog that killed the other, if the Bulldog was too slow and merely held on against the Bull and Terrier mixes then chances are they would be beat.

    Rough Curs do win matches though that's the thing. If back in the early days of dog fighting the dogs were left down with no scratches involved there would be more chance of these rough curs taking the victory, of course when scratching was introduced this changed the name of the game drastically.

    scratches have been a thing since the 1800s actually. plus i think they saw gameness differently.


    as to the subject at hand of appearance, here's how i view it. if cooly's dogs were imported; they were simply old fashioned bull terriers. if they were born in the states they were american bull terriers. the terriers used for crossing varied so you get a good amount of variation. just like how the ofrn is likely an offshoot of the dudley terrier.
