    Good post.

I've worked with many Mals & they can be unpredictable around adults, let alone children. I have said it before & I'll say it again - Mals are great protection dogs. But they are for experienced &/or professional handlers only! These dogs are NOT family pets!!

If you have a family & are choosing between the Mal & GSD, go for a well bred (i.e. non-show, non-BYB) German Shepherd. You won't be disappointed.

    Blessings ...

You might want to look into the presa canarios or the cane corsos.

eerie, tyson and popper seem like the type of morons ruining the breed for the rest of us. these dogs arent used for protection.

Yeah, german bred rotties tend to live longer and are generally healthier. They are used in alot of lines of protection work through out europe and as military dogs. Shepherds tend to be more athletic, but less of a man stopper. I like GSD's though, i also had one that was about 100 lbs's when i was younger who was an escape artst. one time we found him on the roof to our garage... dunno how he got up there lol but that dog was crazy and scary as shit.

As for boxers, i have alot of experience with this breed also, my mother had boxers most of my life and still has one to this day. Those dogs are good learners, but take FOREVER to mature. A boxer is a pup til he's like 3 or 4 years old. Some of em are extremely athletic though but they are just goofy dogs.. some real clowns lol i wouldnt recommend them for a serious job unless it was older. none of ours were ever HA.

mals are rather cheap that one reason you see alot of people getting them over gsds. you can get well bred one for around 500 all day

alot of the reason you here about Mals turning on handlers is because there just that HANDLERS not owners..all the reports ive read about them biting people they werent supposed to were of strictly working dogs that were raised by so many different people (handlers) that they practice biting every day in bite work that they probably dont know any better...there being taught by the people that raise them that its good to bite them in bite work so they dont understand the problem with it when there made to release off of a criminal and they redirect there aggression to another person close by..

And to answer the question about GSD or Mal its more or less personal likes and needs...GSD are larger and generally more powerful and Mals are quicker and more athletic...this isnt written in stone but with my experience with them (my step brother is a K9 Cop) is what i believe...

Another good Shepherd Dog is the Dutch Shepherd.. there built just like Mals but there 130 pounds and 30 in tall...

Have only read 1 of 4 pages but if you want a dog for protection I would go for the German Shepard , have had personal experience and they are top notch guard dogs, milk man & post man could step foot in my garden ( or either garden either side for years) until we made her a house dog. She just didnt let any other than family anywhere close. Was a pain for for a time but is came in very handy once or twice

    Top notch.

    Second 2 none

Just for god order sake, I should mention that my GSD was taken in off the street as a stray, no fancy ass breedres or working kennel and I GUARANTEE that this dog was FOR REAL when it came to family protection

I dont know if us europeans have a better "general" standard that in the US but this dog was serious

    Buk,
I agree with you on the Boerboel thing. Fantastic guard dogs and do not require any training to do so. Also have the natural ability to distinguish friend from foe and are athletic enough to do many other things as well. And surprisingly fast for such a big dog. I have a boerboel myself. So does my mother, my uncle, my grandfather, and even my vet. They're like Pringles, lol. And they're great family dogs as well.

    ABK,
As far as the boerboel attracting thugs, I have had the reverse experience with mine. Thuggish and deliquent-type people stay far away from me when Eisha is by my side. I don't know if it's because they've never seen a dog like her or what but they are scared of her. They will make a wide arc around us to avoid coming too close. And I have never had anyone come onto my property during the almost 4 years I've had her.

Teach your wife to use a handgun. If your not going to be there alot, and your wife has never raised one of the mention breeds(expect APBT), you may want do alot more informed research on the type of protection you need for your family.

I have nothing but direct decendants of Van Pelt's Igor. I was the owner of Dailey's Bubba The Bruiser, and he was the son of Van Pelt's Igor, and Miss Vicious Farley. Other dogs in the bloodline include Fitch's CH Diamond Jim, Fitch's CH Jackhammer, Fitch's CH Lil Bit, Milburgs Buddy Boy, Mr. Farley's Junkyard, Ma Barker, Weatherfords Baby. To many to list, I'd have to show you the pedigree, and yes all dogs are ADBA registered, but I will never put a puppy on a plane, so if you wanted one, you would have to meet with me, I don't sell to anyone will illegal intentions, and this bloodline is the strongest Zebo in the Nation, you may even go so far as to ask the ADBA about Corbin Dailey's bloodline if you choose.
