Well first of all I haven't impacted in hurting a chance for this breed to fit in with society. Second of all I have a group of people that love pit bulls because of me. I educate people and I don't stop, after some people learn what the APBT was bred for and why it was bred that way they understand why APBTs are the way they are. they understand it takes time to learn before you own one. They understand and respect the conformation of this breed and now wont even think about changing anything about this breed. YOu dont see people changing other breeds of dogs into something different and if they did they would call it something else. How and the hell can you say that we shouldn't want a dog for its history . If people didnt live according to their history this world would be totally different. Why change anything I could understand improving things but this breed doesnt need improvement, its perfect.

I never asked how have you hurt this breed. Like many others you let your eyes mislead you to read only what you wanted to read. People dont own akitas just for sled pulls and people dont own rottweilers just for protection, so what makes you think that people own pit bulls for the same reason as you? This question is not just for you.

Okay but I answered your queston any way, and thats not even what this thread is about. This is not about me, this is about game bred dogs. Stick to the topic, basically if you cant handle what this breed is about then leave it alone, its not for you APBT=GAME sorry that is what a APBT is, nothing else.

  6. Its not the fault of the Dogfighter that they have to go underground.....

  7. ....selection is all, in nature and with domesticated animals and there is nothing more cruel then bred for look. Look at the Elephants in Africa, they fight sometimes up to 8 houers, and sometimes one dies after that...sometimes both, but even they are souch giants, they have no bone or other healthproblems...and then look at big showbreeding dogs....

If some of you actually did your research you would have known that this breed was bred for bull baiting hence "bull". When this sport (if you want to call it a sport) was made illegal the lower class people were the ones that starting putting these bull terriers into the pits - hence "pit" in pit bull terriers! And when they did actually put their dogs into the pits they would have them in there with the utmost care and have medical attention right away when needed. Their owners would be right in the pits with them to make sure their dogs didn't really get hurt. Not like these jack*sses today that make those dogs fight to their deaths. And then when a dog is beaten then they are just tossed aside like garbage. Does anyone see something wrong in that??!! I sure as hell do! If anyone actually think that the way these dumb a**ses fight these dogs today are a benefit to this breed and or to the dog him/herself?! And you actually think that this is beneficial to a dog or any other living thing for this matter, then I'm sure that you do not have respect for yourself or any living creature on this planet. I'm so sick of these dumb a**ses that have a pit just so they can make a buck and only see dollar signs when they think of their dog. And don't see their dog for what they are supposed to be - your pet. You are their guardian and you are supposed to protect them! I am well aware that certain dogs are bred for certain reasons and pitbulls were not originally bred to fight! Now with that said - I am not including respectable kennels that actually bred these dogs for the love of these dogs. I'm talking about pits that don't have papers and stupid, ignorant people decide "Hey I'm gonna breed my dog to make some money" and that's there only motive to having this dog. And the fact that it's a pitbull and want to be known as some kind of a badass. And for the Ferrai comment - don't some guys buy muscle cars to overcompensate for you know what? That's another way some guys can think that their mucho or "the shit" by living through their dogs. And I think this is the biggest problem in this bred. It seems like it's always the ganster wannabes that want them or some white trash people that want this breed and this is why this breed has such a bad name - due to the stupid, ignorant people that have made their reputations just as bad as their own...

IMO it all depends on which type of doggers you are talking about. Streeters or Pros. Streeters are scum. Pros aid in bettering the breed out of a love for the breed as a whole. Streeters are ONLY in it for $$$ and cheap thrills. The REAL pros want nothing but the best for the dogs and some feed better than what your own kids eat!!! Pros dont sell dogs for profit and they test and match for their dogs/ lines benefit only.

To be a PRO that must be your job. A professional dogman. I'd be willing to bet its easily a 40 hr work week. You know what they say about dirty jobs???....Somebody has to do it. We ALL benefit from it by having dogs of sound mind, body, and temperment. Take it or leave it.

Would you consider any of them "Trash"??? http://www.game-dog.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=12594&c=3&userid=5109

Not trying to disrespect, just need some clarification on your post.

  14. well i agree with you.. i have become *tree hugger* so many will call me after years of having not fighters but killers for fun.. and i have changed my ways my doggs do what i ask them to do and now adays i ask them to find lost children or missing alzheimers patients , they thrive and live to work , and are very happy doing it.. dont think the ones i have now miss the fight.. and gameness is still in them .. when walking them , they still get up on hind legs and pull at the end of the leash when they see another dog but, they do as i ask them to do! soon i will train some for agility and put them in competition as well as weight pull meets.. i dont believe the dogs are missing out ** on anything in their lives now to be loved and honored and kept till their dying day as members of my family..i believe energies set on a good path are energies well used.. after all i had energies in my youth that did bad things and now the same energy is used to make the world a safer and better place my dogs are a part of that .. and im proud of that and will keep to that love me hate me its ok .. its energy and i will do with it what i need to do

Rocky, they gotta eat too. Of course they make a living on the dogs. But not from puppy sales. In todays day and times it is almost impossible to live a lifestyle like doggers of old. I'm not gonna speculate on how they earn $$ other than from dogs.

This is all very clear to me, "why would you take on the responsibility of owning this breed if you will not accept where they come from, or what they are?" . The name.

You are buying and using these dogs because of the name that is associated with them, whether you admit it or not. If you do not like what the breed is, find a breed more suited to your tastes!

I do not break the law with my dogs, and do not involve myself in illegal game-testing or matches, but I will not deny their history, and I will not shun those that are risking their freedoms to ensure our kids have the same dogs as we were given the opportunity to own. What have I done for the breed Doggystyle asked? I've kept it true to form, and because I respect the breed and the qualities that have come to go hand in hand with pit-fighting. I can look farther than "I want this, and I want that!"...I'm in it for the breed as a whole, and the betterment of the breed, not for my own selfishness. It is the responsibility of every owner, of every breed to carry on the breed, and hand it down in the same form (or better) than it was given to them. This applies to our dogs, and it applies to poodles.

"So basically you people want dogs with a proven history just to say that you may have a winner. This whole proven game crap is just that, crap. You people who vouch for game dogs so much are no better than the people who want a dog for looks, because you want a dog just for it's history."

No, I could care less about "Winners" Doggystyle, winners and losers are simply dogs who have gone onto that next level of competition after their game-testing. I dont believe big-money shows are very productive, and if I had things my way, game-testing would be as far as a dog needs to be taken. Historically, the reason for open matches, was so you didnt ruin your own yard game-testing a great dog! Thus, you can do battle with a dog of higher quality than what the others are on your yard, and truely game-test them.

How are we no better than those breeding for show?! I dont breed, period. And if I did, I would breed for the betterment of the breed and its standards-not for my own selfish wants! You need to open your eyes and stop this "give me what I want!" childish mentality, the breed wasnt created for YOU, and it wasnt created for ME. We are merely guardians of the breed, using our time and resources to further the breed. Stop being selfish, and think of the breed as a whole, instead of simply the dog on your couch! You want the name of the breed, without the charectoristics and history of the breed. This tells me you are merely using the name to benefit yourself, if not, you could of gotten another breed that fit the bill your looking for in a dog-without having to deal with arguing dog-fighting in your breed.

Being a game dog owner is a full-time job in its own right, to use the dogs as a form of paying the bills, is a cop-out and shameful. Everyone I associate with (including myself) works our full-time jobs to pay the bills, and utilizes almost every second of our spare time to the dogs. I've got to work twice as hard just to provide my dogs with the sort of living requirements they demand. I dont bitch and whine about it, I dont sell drugs to make it easy, we work our asses off unselfishly to provide! I've been in the dogs a relatively short time compared to my mentor, and the others I interact with so I will use them as a better example than myself....I'd estimate just one dog can easily consume 1000 a year, without any major complications and vet visits. This is a bare minimum for a happy-healthy dog. Now you factor in 5, 6, 10 dogs and you are looking at a minimum of 5000,6000,10000 respectively a year. Figure into that one kennel accident a year, and if your lucky, one broken leg on one dog. This is going to cost you another couple thousand for x-rays, anesthesia, emergency visits, prescription drugs, and the surgery itself to set the bone again. Figure a couple hundred dollars to the other dog for wound closure/aftercare and prescription drugs. Do this for 10-15 years and your in the hole farther than you would believe. To provide this kind of care for your animals, and still provide for your family and pay the other bills, you can see the comittment it takes on the part of the folks you are tarnishing. And no, they dont cur out and sell pups to the public, or open 50k shows to try and regain some of their $$. No pups sold, no wagered rolls, its all (hypothetically) game-testing between friends, and the pups stay in the circle. Not a single dime to be made so do not use that as an excuse either!

That's the way it should be. A hobby, a sport, something to keep yourself going. I honestly don't believe that any one person or groups of people, businesses or private can respectfully make a decent profit off of animals. Having worked at a very reputable vet hospital that was the primary care of a good pet store which sold pups and kittens. When money is involved and that is a prime motivator, you can pretty much garauntee harm will come to the animals in more ways that one. It is so time consuming (time ='s $) and costly to take proper care of any type of animal, let alone high energy, intelligent ones, that you're a pro if you can simply cover your expenses using the animals.

14 rock, that was a GREAT post. I was trying to say what you said in my earlier post, but didnt seem to convey the message as well as you did. I dont know ANY people that make a FULL living off the dogs ONLY.
