Is 11monts old enough for springpole?

My boy is 11 months old now. I just put up a springpole today. Before I let him play on it too much I want to make sure his teeth has set in and is strong enough. How can I tell? Also, is this an illegal activity? Thanks in advance for any advice.

It is safe in moderation. Keep it low enough at first that all fours are on the ground. I perfer to at least have the back legs on the dirt even later and more advanced. I believe it is safer for the dog. Legality depends on your state and even your county and town. Laws differ in each place.

Thanks for the info. I agree with you about the feet touching the ground. Still wondering how I can tell if his teeth has set in and is strong enough. He is wanting to play on it more and more now. I ran a search but didn't find the answer. Thaks for all the info.

Teeth are not fully done growing and strengthening until 18mos and not really totally done until full adult maturity at around 2 years...so take it easy until then at least with at least the back legs down...

As far as legality, just pick up the phone and call local animal control and ask them. It might be wise to get that in writing if it is legal. It might be wise to get a written letter from your vet that he/she approves of springpole exercise, also.
I say this because on another forum I read a post from a woman whose neighbor called the cops that she was "hanging" a dog in her back yard. The cop showed up at her door all suspicious and actually "rolled his eyes" when the dog owner explained that she was exercising her dog. Springpoles were not illegal in her town or county. The cop was totally ignorant and rude. He had her take the springpole down. Apparently she now has it back up and has written letters from her neighbors, her vet and anyone she can think of that her dog is not a threat, not abused, etc. etc.
Be a boy scout and "be prepared." Misunderstandings happen because of the media hysteria and the propanganda by the ASPCA that says springpoles are evidence of dog fighting.
