Alright ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for Polecat!! Wow, Twilight Zone or what??? If only his parents had known about culling, lol. Anyhow, I love to give yall my take on things, so here goes. Culling is most definitely neccessary. Were I to have pups that were obviously defective, green needle time. Were I ever to find myself in possession of a man-biter, green needle (or bullet if I couldn't get close enough for the needle). If I had some pups that were not obviously defective, but just obvious pet quality, they'd find a good home and would be altered, or under contract to have that done. If a dog that I had put time money effort and love into turned out not to be the great dog I thought it could be, whether I kept it or gave it away, it would be fixed. To me, all this seems rational.

Pit Domination- You brought up some good probing questions. It's obvious you have a lot of love and respect for this breed and it's hard to understand how anyone could kill a dog, especially one of their own. I assure you, there is not enough room in our country for any more dogs, even well bred ones. Good breeders know this and take it into account. Culling should always be in the best interest of the dog. IMO All dogs deserve a good home, there just aren't enough good homes.

Sterilizing the animal and rehoming is a luxury. I wouldn't want to rehome, I would want to keep all my animals because I believe there is a use for all of them. If not sheer pleasure of watching them alone. I also believe there is as much to learn from a cur then there is a game dog. IMO it is equally as important to know what you DON'T want as it is to know what you DO want ( hence the term Know your enemy ). In every aspect of life I believe it is best to thoroughly understand what you are opposed to. " Keep your friends close and your enemies closer " - the Godfather. I've worked with so many dogs of poor breeding and unstable temperment, that I have a much better idea of dogs in general than if I soley worked with stable, well bred animals. If I didn't have to handle so many crazy, fearful, unhealthy, unsocialized dogs, I wouldn't give myself much credit. A well bred, stable minded dog is like a piece of pie and I can spot one in minutes.

After several decades of breeding, the idea of keeping and sterilizing every cur would not be an option. You would have too many dogs. Those who you trusted to give pet homes would probably be filled and culling would be the only answer.
There are fates far worse than death in the animal kingdom.

Hitler culled himself. Thanks to the VD that made him even crazier.

The "holy grail" (TRUE gameness) of bulldogs is hard to obtain and even harder to maintain thru breeding. I have much more respect for men/women that TRY to breed for this trait over all else. Culling is a neccesary fact of life that most people cant deal with. DEAL WITH IT.

Depending on how he acted, I'd gladly keep a dog on my yard that took 2 1/2 hours to quit. He may be a quitter, but IMO I wouldnt call him a cur. Call me what you want, but I doubt many people on here own a dog that would go past the 1 hr mark.

  5. Ok...exactly thats the point. You sad he quit after 2 and a half hours.....yes? Tell me what would happen if the other dog had quit after say 2 hours and 25 min....? He He He....and now think about it would happen 3 or 4 times...the next fights would last say between 1 and 1 and a half hour (thats in the limit:)) You would have a great and game dog that is in fact a quitter....but you will never know it! From my point of view a dog that is able to fight for say 2 hours a HARD fight is a Bulldog.....and if he quit 10 min later he is still a Bulldog because no other breed can stand the 2 hours.......ok all the great names like chinaman or Jeep or or or.....nothing is for sure. And then the Dead game thing...sorry but thats realy stupid because only dead dogs are deadgame....and you know whats the worst thing with that? All dead dogs are impotent.

So whats the time limit realone? At what minute mark do you exclaim "thats enough, he's a gamedog". 10 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, 2 hours? This is a flawed theory, its all on an individual basis you need to judge it, taking into account all the factors, most importantly...how far the other dog put him behind (if the dog even got put behind). There are dogs that can inflict more damage in 10 minutes than others will see in an entire 3 hour battle. Just because the 3 hour dogs, stayed in the box with alot less injury, and met some magical "Game number"...they are game? 15 minutes in and you see, crawling deadgame scractches at times. These dogs are less game than the dog whose only injury is an ear thats been sucked on for 3 hours? I dont think so. Time means very, very little, and it means nothing if you dont take into account the other dogs skill level.

Im Going To Reccomend All Dogmen Not Reply To This Crap Anymore, These People Are Plain Ignorant And Dont Deserve The Time Or Education, There Is No Reason For Them To Know Anything About This. They Dont Show These Dogs In The Box So I Say Cull Them From Your Conversations There Is No Reason For Them To Hear This Or Even Ask These Types Of Questions.

Is There An Ignore Option On Here Where You Cant See Some Peoples Posts? If Not May I Make That Suggestion?

well now, this sorta brings us back to the thread about newbies learning from those who know. I understand if you think this was a stupid thread, but to close your mind to some people here who may not be dogmen yet......but want to learn all they can isn't all to bright an idea in my opinion either. I'm Sorry, But I Have Little Respect For Narrow Minded People Who Don't Feel Anyone Is Worth Their Time. And if that remark wasn't directed at me in any way, it still doesn't change my opinion.

lol look at some of the shit in this thread. it is rediculous. there have been good, logical points made about culling dogs, the reaons, the methods, but there are people who just dont get it. why should anyone sit there and keep trying to explain when some of these people would pass out of they had to shoot one of thier dogs?

i also dont think the dog game should be something you learn on the internet my friend. this game has been passed down in generations in families in the woods for a hundred years, you never heard of them back in the day but now inner city thugs got em and internet newbies are asking questions they dont even need to think about. the internet isnt a tool to learn how to be a dogman. JMO if you dont like or respect it thats fine with me...

I hear where you're coming from. I know it's frustrating to read stupid shit, and see the same questions asked repeatedly. All I'm saying is keep an open mind. I know there's talk on here that probably shouldn't be shared with some folks, but it is a public forum. Like I said in the other thread I referred to, this is a good way to network with people in the know, and get the chance to earn their trust and respect and hopefully someone will agree to take the time to meet you in person to show you the ropes. I wouldn't discredit the usefulness of this and other forums. I think you can learn some things here, I know I have. But real world experience is what it all comes down to. I would most likely not have been able to meet some of the people this site has given me the opportunity to had I never found it. So, as I agree you can't learn the dog game on the internet, it gives people deemed worthy a shot at getting their foot in the door.

I will do that. lol. Just don't forget to take a hit off a beer before some one lights up. Or we are all going to be blasted lol. Two should be enough for a crew of folks. I took a pint to Texas and only half got consumed before eveyone was ready to go to bed. I reckon it is always good to have extra. I really didn't expect to have any left over. I reckon many have gotten used to that 40% by volume stuff that the 100% lights up the gizzard. lol I love it. Good carb cleaner too.[IMG] we will need a driver. Does your boy drink? Maybe he could be the bus driver that night. lol.

Attila, have you ever tried burning that stuff in the tank? the e85 thing would be 85% mason jar, and 15% fuel. Just wondering.
