endurance ?

Discussion in 'Sports & Activities' started by pitbullcrazy30, Dec 9, 2006.

  1. hello everyone, i have a ?..... my male is bretty big for the breed all his litter mates and outher family members are the average size 40 to 55 pounds, my boy is 80, i was wondering about his endurance i gave him a 5.5 mile work out today, he kept up a fast trot and about 5 short but very fast full out sprints, i let him set his own pace and when we got home he wasnt even tired he was jumping all over the place still wanting to go...what do u all think is that pretty good distance for this big of a dog? or is it nothing?

it depends on how his body is built..... dogs with barrel chests and are not sound or conformationally correct dont have that good of endurance and are more prone to injery.

the best thing to do with your dog is go until he is tired work your way up, push him but not too hard.

maybe a weighted vest would help ya if he doesnt tired out as fast as you would like... or maybe a treadmill.

Sounds good. The dogs size doesn't always dictate wind I got one over here that never gets tired either.

  4. sounds good .... the key is he wasnt dead tired at the end . so he probably is in good shape

My Cam Does The Same Thing, But He 55(bodercollie And A.p.b.t Mix) Pounds We Will Do 12 45yd Sprints Uphill. Take A Breather At 6 And Do The Other 6. Then Jog Over To The Football Field And Do 2 350's. Both Under 50 Seconds Then Do 3 Hill Sprint. He'll Eat And Drink Then Rest Alittle And Then Be In The Bacc Yard Running Back And Forth.

make sure your dog doesnt eat half an hour before or after a workout... it can make the stomach flip over and it can cut of the curculation and it can be fatal... i saw it on animal ER LOL.

Before yes, after, no. I've seen people who know suggest as soon as the animal cools down after a workout is the best time to eat. Look at the wild. A dog (wild dog or wolf) chases down its prey (workout) and will start right then to eat the contents of the prey animals stomach. They don't wait 30 minutes.

they might choke if you feed them while still grasping for air.
