Can dogs just not like a particular person or individual?

Ok I was wondering ya'll opinions. I belive they can. At work I see it all they time where a dog does fine with certain individuals and with others they growl or try to bite. Or this Rhodesian that boards with up about 20 days out of every month is fine with everyone but this 1 kennel tech. I was just wondering?

  2. I believe that very much. Some dogs do not like certain smells or vibes they get from some people. Some of them may have been abused by a man or woman and don't like that particular sex.
Maybe the one that they dont like, have done something to him/her to cause this reaction. JMO

I think its definately possible, ill give u an example, my dog bruno is great with everyone he meets, he lets my 6 year old nephew ride him like a horse, pull on his skin and pretty much do whatever he wants and the dog will just lay there or just lick my nephew. When ever we go for walks and he sees kids, he gets all happy like and starts wagging his tail tryin to get to them to give them some licks or what not, he just loves kids like crazy, well one day my sister and nephew came over and they brought over one of my nephew's friends, this little 6 year old girl maggie, well maggie has a dog so she's not afraid of dogs or anything like that, but for some reason bruno just doesn't like this little girl, it makes no sense to me because as far as i know she hasn't done anything to him but he just growls at her and stays away from her. I can't explain why he does it, he just does, he feels somethin and he doesn't like it

From my experiences, yes. I've seen dogs a person said no one could touch handled just like a baby. I also know a person that almost every dog he goes around will either try to bite him or at least let him know he's not welcome. They are very good judges of character.

As everyone else said, yes. When I was a little kid we had beautiful little gamey APBT that just hated ALL men except my dad. She was fine with kids and women but we would have to put her up in the garage when a guy was coming over. We had 5 acreas* of land that she ran loose on and she would NEVER step foot out of the yard but if a guy would come on it...he was quickly run'n away. I was thinking about her earlier and I'm gonna have to find a picture of her. A guy up the road from us swerved into our yard one day and ran her over. He didnt like the fact that his dogs would get their asses whooped everytime they came wonder'n down to our house. He had some bulky little red nosed pits that he fought regularly but they had nothing on Dutchess. When he ran her over, it cripled her entire back half and she had to be put down. But he has gotten what he deserved since then...he's six feet under ;).
IMO, dogs have personalities just like we do. They dont like certain people just like we dont like certain people. And yes, some dogs can be racist lol, Boudreaux and my mutt dog is. Babygirl dont like men but all of my other dogs are usually alright with everyone, if I'm there with them anyways.

I remember a dog that was fine with everyone unless it was a male with a beard and mustache wearing a baseball cap. Apparently the owners had sent this dog away for training (big mistake) and the guy who trained it (who looked as described above) used abusive techniques.

Also knew a female dog who was fine with females yet not trusting of men, she was a stray so I have no idea of the triggers that caused this behavior.
I know that I don't like everyone I meet so I don't expect my dogs to either LOL.

from past experience, and reading of others expeienses,,yes. but i think the person them selves plays a big part in that. like if they don't like the particular dog, or if they have a lil fer of the dog, or somethin like that,,the dog'll pick up on it,,and won't forget it.

    jmo though

i just read old timers post,,my dog does the same. BUT i think it's because they aren't owned by another race. not because they are racial! lol. they just unfamiliar with the other races. my older dog raises hell when any black guy comes around to see me. i think just because in her growin up an socializing process, i didn't think to have her around alot of other races. my bad i guess

At work now we have a Dr from Pakistan shadowing The Vet I work for. The Vet I work for is black. And his wife's dog is a Rotty. And Saku (The Rotty) has been around balck and white people. And Saku can not Stand that Dr from Pakistan. I mean charging and growling at him. Another Tech and I was talking about it we was wondering if it can also be race related.

I did ask the Vet I work for and he agree'd saying that in some aspects that dogs can just not like some one. He said his dog (An APBT) just did not like his mother in law. He said she never was aggressive to any one but whenever his mother in law came around she went nuts. Roxy lived to be 13 she had to be PTS she bloated for the 2nd time. We all miss that little girl!

We had this mutt GSD mix for 17 years and she hated this one horse trader that use to come around. She went through barn doors, stall doors, car windows to get this guy. She must of bit him 6 or 7 times in those years. he would pull up at the barn and the first thing at of his mouth was "wheres that yellow dog".
I never could understand why he kept coming around. Guess he just like to be attack by this old dog LOL
Also the ret mix I had as a kid once he met someone was fine with them. If someone came to the house he would be growling but once you let them in and told the dog it was ok he would just calm down and never growl at that person again. Until one night when I was 14 the furnace was broken and both my parents were still at work when the repairman got to the house. I opened the door while holding on to the dog collar, told the dog it was ok. He just kept on snarling, not growling, snarling like he was rabid. I had to hold on to him the whole time the guy was there. No way was I putting the dog in a room and shutting the door. I trusted that dog judgement more then anyone's. So I kept my brothers and sister in the same room with me and held on the the dog until the guy left.
It was the only time in the 14 years we had that dog that he ever acted like that and I believe he saved our lives that night, that there was something seriously wrong with that guy. I will never know for sure but that is how I feel.

Dogs NEVER liked my ex-husband but I think because he was loud, walked fast and makes them nervous. As a matter of fact...I didn't like him either, thats where the Ex part comes in.

my dog cannot stand one of the owners of my building. Won't go near him. Just the other day, the owner came into my apartment for something. My dog sat, very rigid like, between the two of us, just staring at him. He's been like this from the first time he ever saw him.

  16. LOL, I am sure that repairman was working as fast as he could to get the hell out of the house. I can visualize that repairman sweating his ass off hoping that lil 14 year old can hold back that "vicious" dog until he was done. I am sure will never forget that experience either. lmao! brave guy to stay and work under those conditions.

i think so to.but see blacks smell diffrent then us and by us i mean whites and they look a lot diffrent to.a dog sees in black and white and shades so i am sure i would freak out to if someone all black came up to me if i was a dog.and the same goes for us to.if a dog is owned by blacks as a rule they don't like whites because we look diffrent and smell diffrent so the dog acts acordingly.personaly for my area i perfer to have my dogs that way because literly 105 out of the 107 break ins last year were commited by blacks the other 2 were by asians so i would rather have a dog for my area that is suspicious of blacks till they see whats going on.my 2 guard dogs are the same as my other dogs and to me there is not anything wrong with it on account of the things that go one here.
