yeah ive always been told that if you see an unussual number of flies clustered or in your house that its about to storm.

That's what someone had just said but hey the weather people have been saying it's supposed to storm the last two weeks. That goes to show that mother nature can only be dictated by what's she's created.

I dust my yard with SEVIN dust. It is safe for the dogs and gets rid off ALL of the bugs. Wet the area, sprinkle the powder and you are done. You can actually use it to give the dogs a "dust bath" if needed. I also hang a piece of fly paper from the tree by mine. It helps a little bit.

what about those zap lights that you hang outside and they draw in the bugs and they get zapped.....there's no chemicals so there's no smell. But when they get zapped, they really get zapped....:)

Well, I used to use seven dust but I didn't know it was for flies too. As for the zapper, doesn't it have a electric cord?

Use straight clorox in a spray bottle on entire chain spot, wet it down and let it dry a lil. Respray area with water and sprinkle powdered lime on entire spot (dont use too much, slight dusting will do) then wet down the powdered lime. Let the lime soak in for 1/2 hour or so and then rinse off ALL traces of lime from the spot. If the lime gets in the paws it will cause sores. Let the spot dry for about an hour. When the spot is dry, spray bronco (stall spray) all around the chain spot, the house and the dog. If you put a few fly traps around (milk jug kind) that will help too. Try and clean up everyday also.

I deal with a CRAZY fly problem. We have man-eating Deer Flies that will eat your ass up in a second. The bronco works well and its cheap, I even use it on myself as a fly repellant.

it does have an electric cord but that can be taped up and out of the dogs reach....

Jeeperino: I'm definitely gonna have to take your advice, if it's keeps those blood sucking flies away then I know it can help me. How often should I repeat this process?

Michele: I may(not sure) also invest in one of those zappers and hang it on my patio. It won't be close to the dogs, but I know they work. I seen'em for $22 at the DIY store.

It doesn't have to be near the dogs to help with my problem does it?

not at all....the bugs, for some reason, go to where the light is...and then: ZAP!!!...you hear them sizzle.....:D

Buy the cheap Bronco at a feed store. I use it when needed. A few times a week on the dog and 1-2 times a week in the dogs house. I try to use as little as possible and am careful not to let the overspray get in food or water.

I grew up in the country and we had flies all the time. We hang ziplock bags full of water wherever we will be hanging out. The flies don't come around. Thats probabally the craziest thing you've ever heard, but I know it works for the patio.

just go to your local livestock supply store and talk to them. i can't remember the name of it now but i used to use one that could be applied to the dogs as well as the area and it worked great. flytraps attract more flies especially those bags if you are going to use flytraps at least use the sticky strips. and those zappers are not for flies, flies are attracred to smell not light.

Sounds like you got you a host of deer flies on the prowl. Those little buggers are like horse flies, but smaller & they will feast on your dog's ears, causing a condition called "fly strike."

I had a problem w/ deer flies last year. We tried almost everything - commercial stink traps, homemade beer traps, fly strips, etc. & nothing worked. They worked great on house flies, but not deer flies. Finally it dawned on me - deer flies feed on blood, not rotten food or sweet items.

The best think I've found to keep the deer flies at bay was to put one of those insecticide tags for cattle on their collar. It is supposed to keep many insects at bay, especially deer flies. I attach it close to the collar w/ a zip tie so they can't chew it & it worked like a charm.

You can find these tags at any co-cop, in my area they were about $10 for 6.

    Good luck!

Yep. I think their afriad of their reflection or getting wet. It works, but I'm not sure how well it would help with so many flies.

I know down here in Mississippi/Alabama way the older folks do that. It seems to work. They don't seem to like water. Maybe the flies smell or otherwise sense the water & stay away.

But I've only seen it done on porches, patios, etc. not dog houses or kennels.
