    Bush signs animal fighting bill
    Friday, May 4, 2007

    By Fred Love
    Stephens Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON - President Bush on Thursday signed into a law a bill strengthening
    penalties against animal fighting.

The new law makes it a felony to transport animals across state lines to engage
in fighting events, carrying a prison sentence of up to three years and a
    $250,000 fine.

The violation previously was a misdemeanor, which animal rights groups said did
little to discourage what they described as brutal practices.

The House approved the bill by a 368-39 vote on March 26, and it passed by
unanimous consent in the Senate on April 10.

Dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states, and Louisiana is the only state that
    allows cockfighting.

Opponents argued the measure could allow felony charges to be brought against
gamefowl enthusiasts who raise birds for their meat and feathers or enter them
in exhibitions like horse or dog shows but never use them for fights.

Larry Matthews, director emeritus of the United Gamefowl Breeders Association,
said the law will be difficult to enforce.

"How do you tell a fighting rooster from one that's going to go to a livestock
show?" Matthews said. "You can't tell one from the other."

Supporters say stronger federal penalties will help authorities crack down on
animal fighting and other illegal activities associated with it, such as gun and
    drug trafficking.

"Animal fighting is a barbaric and inhumane practice, and it is fitting and
appropriate that we now have a national policy condemning and criminalizing this
form of organized animal cruelty," said Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane
    Society of the United States.

Great, so now if I take my dogs to Louisiana when I go visit my family and I get pulled over, they(the blue collar BOYS) have another reason to ship me off to prison. They're the only reason I want my dogs to be HA, I swear.

All I have to say about Bush is as soon as he becomes President someone committs a mass murder and we're at War for Weapons of Mass Destruction(oil). I've met alot of repenting Republicans since he won the election and became so careless of how he handles his power.

Before he is done he will take all our rights away since he has no respect for the consitution.
Some scary stuff if you travel out of state now.

I did the same thing when Clinton was elected and did the whole time he was in. He changed the meaning of Drill Sgt in the military.

Funny I had plenty of money during the Clinton years specially when filling my gas tank. Same with going to the grocery store.
Here something to think about. No body died when Clinton lied.

Please explain how the President controls the price of gas. It doesn't matter who is in office gas will always be on the rise. At least he did give everybody tax cuts and not add a death tax.

I just want to know how this will be proven. What makes a "fighting dog"? What about show dogs crossing state lines? Or those who are transporting for a rescue? The latter really scares me, because we often transport dogs that have been pulled from abuse and neglect cases.

What is this country coming to, "land of the brave, home of the free?" can't even do anything in this country no more, didn't the pilgrims move here so they can do the stuff they want? And didn't the "father of this country, george washington" participate in Cock Fighting.

yup, sure is gunna be interesting to see what CONCRETE evidence the, ahem, 'authorities' can come up with, or better yet, conjure up, in terms of what specifically a "fighting dog" is and isn't....

    oh brother!!!!
no doubt, "Land of the Free"???????
seems the word "free' has several different meanings, depending who you ask these days, ....pathetic, ....

Actually People did die when Clinton lied...I believe in was Sudan. He bombed a plant that he claimed had weapons, and it turned out to be an asprin plant, but most people never hear of that, or choose not to...
Also, Clinton also claimed that Saddam had WMD, just before he left office, and even had a bombing campaign...
The gas prices have nothing to do with the President. It has everything to do with the environmentalist who won't even let us drill on our own property for oil..And our dependecy*sp* on oil is both the Republicans and Democrats' fault. Both parties sleep in the same bed, and that bed is big businesses' bed...
Now I don't agree with everything Bush has done. I am upset that he has done nothing to improve education, and I am upset that he has done nothing about the Illegal Immigration problem, and obviously now this new bill that was past, but otherwise, I don't have a problem with the man.

True, when it comes to our dogs, both parties are trying to get our dogs out of the picture...Which this bill obviously displays, a democrat congress makes the law, and a republican President approves it.

  20. To be honour I know many barbaric and inhuman things but to let 2 animals do what they really want is not one of them. Look to you only how our eggs and our milk are produced..... but they will never forbid this real kind of animal cruelty because also the dear, demented animal welfarists want to have eggs and milk to the breakfast .Politicians always see on the majority .... own brain is luxury .
