I disagree, if I'm not mistaken it's not illegal to speak ones opinion about any given subject. I don't fight dogs, never have never will, but I think that the law is bogus. If it was legalized and regulated it wouldn't be done in the back alleys by guys that don't know what they are doing, and causing all the trouble. I'm not trying to encourage anyone to do it, but rather if you feel so strongly about keeping them pure, then get the laws changed. I don't think I personally could stomach it, but I'm not naive to where they come from and how they got to be the dogs that they are. If the mods disapprove they can edit it or tell me to, but I don't see where any laws have been broken.

  2. Then take it up with the law then, it is against the rules to talk about (present) dog fighting and enticing other members on the subject. ......I asked for it to please stop....This thread was not about that anyways...

First off to FearlessKnight, I posted my last post before I seen yours. Okay BoogiemanBlood, 1.) I'm not breeding to sell. 2.) I'm not going to tell anyone that my dogs are pit bulls. 3.) I have been trying to anwser your questions, but in turn feel the freedom to ask you some questions too! Which you never anwsered. 4.) When someone cusses me, I assume that they are mad at me, and with the last comment you made directed at me, I know that you are, no assumptions. That's your rights, and they stop at the end of my nose, I have never been a blow hard and won't start now. I'm sure if we met you would find that I'm very loyal to the pit bull breed, and have used the greatest of my abilities to convince people that they are loving loyal companions. I don't have any hard feelings for anyone on this board, and hope the same of you, thats what is great about our country we both have the right to disagree:cool:

Simple question at the start of this thread. I don't know if it was created out of previous knowledge and trying to start this war or not. Considering the OP has contacted me and told me to put an end to this bickering, I doubt it. That said, both sides have made their point clear. I would like for this thread to stay open and beneficial. For that to happen, people need to be civil. If that means agreeing to disagree, or hammering eachother in pm's, I don't care. The most recent posts have nothing to do with the thread, and are only personal attacks between members. If it continues after this post, I will temporarily ban anyone who cannot let it go and insists on detracting from the threads intent.

Further, it is legal to discuss dog-fighting in historical settings, and ideology behind it. Provoking or condoning it, technically may be legal, but it has no purpose on this thread or forum. The point that was attempting to be made is noted, continuing discussion of it will do no good for the thread, and will not be allowed.

For the record, in rare instances I don't see a problem infusing APBT blood in a different breed. For example, the Ca da Bou is facing a problem in that it's gene pool is extremely small. So outcrosses to the breeds that were used to create that breed are being accepted. However, this is a breed that is being bred for a WORKING PURPOSE and is a WORKING DOG that has a JOB to do.

Your breeding desires are different b/c you want a "super small & cutsie pittie bull" that won't "offend" people. Here's the way I look at it: If you don't like the true APBT for what it is, then you don't like the breed, you just like riding the coattails of a historical breed whose name brings respect and admiration. I just wish one would leave the breed to those who truly love the DOGS and not the name.

I'll say my own opinion for later, I'm curious to see how this thread turns out.

Keep this in general terms, we are not singeling out any one person or their program. Simply "would you" and "why or why not", and any exceptions to the general idea?

I am a new member and have a question for ya. what is the difference between an American bulldog and an APBT? I picked up a stray on a jobsite and don't know what he is ( not that it is real important to me just want to know). some peaple say american but my vet said probably a pitt mix. he looks pitt to me. I will try to add pics when I learn how. He is all white with some light black spots that you really cant see unless he is wet. his current weight is 67# I feed him very well (chicken with every meal) thanx for any info especially if you can tell me how to upload pic. Please don't rag on me (there seems to be alot of angry peaple here)

Passionate, might be a better word, LOL! Hard to say what you have, 67lbs. is outside of what most people consider standard for pitbulls, but sometimes they get that big, and the cross-bred dogs certainly do. If you do figure out how to post pictures you might get some more help. Good luck with your dog, Mouser

I did not read all the responses, but I see know reason to breed apbt to other breeds..If you are looking for smaller dogs get a different breed(jack russel,Patterdale), If you are looking for larger dogs get a different breed(am.bulldog,Cane Corso) Now also realize there are many different sizes of apbt ranging from 20lbs(or below sometimes) to 75lbs(and up sometimes) I see no reason to cross..That is my opinion..

  15. I have too much respect for the genes of these dogs. I wouldnt also mix gold with copper or Scotch with urine. I wouldnt mix a GSD with a Greyhound or a france cold-blood with an arabian horse.

  16. When reading the title of the thread I expected the posts to be going the Bandog/AmBully route, and was surprised that it went toward the small side...if done irresonsibly the same types of problems will occur. I think that there is a use for Bandogs (or as Miakoda stated using APBT blood to revitalize a gene pool in certain breeds) but only in cases of working dogs. These types of dogs are not for the average joe at all. I just wanted to add that it is much more difficult to predict size, temperment, and health problems in mixed breed dogs (and as a result of irresponsible breeding). That's not to say that any one person is specifically irresponsible, but that irresponsibility is that root of all evil in regards to the APBT's current state of affairs. Most people are not, and will not act reponsibly.

I also wanted to touch on designer breeds...this is such a hot issue to me. People are creating dogs with lots of health problems. A cock-a-poo (cockerspaniel mixed with poodle) is cute forsure, but when he has hip dysplaisa at 3 it's a terrible site. Actually, those designer breeds have become a type of status "symbol." Quick story, I like to talk dogs as much as possible, and do so. A co-worker of mine decided to show me his puppy. I looked at it oddly because it didn't look like anything I recognized. I asked if it was a beagle mix...he replied with an equally puzzling look and told me it was a cock-a-poo. Apparently, I spend to much time on this forum b/c my first response was to tell him that he was irresponsible and bought a mutt. His repsonse was, and I quote, "this ain't no mutt...this is an $800 dollar dog!" Way different perspective.

I think there are enough dogs, from pets to working dogs in this world so for me there is no need to breed a new race of dogs when you can get one and keep improving them around the way you want.

Now, if you really have a solid breeding program based on working dogs and you think APBT will give you what you are lacking, i see this perfect, will take you time to get exactly what you want from APBT to your working breed and you shouldnt label the result as purebreed APBT.

However i dont support adding APBT for comercial or "show" purposes, or using the name APBT for selling mutts or not legit APBT dogs.

I have friends that make 50/50 crosses with American Bulldogs specifically for catchdogs. Now, these are hunters that place the offspring with other hunters and aren't pumping out pups on a regular basis. They breed when they need to replenish their stock. Dogs that don't work out are culled. These are dogmen who are breeding for a specific purpose, not trying to pass them off as purebred APBT...they call them bulldogs or old southern catchdogs. As far as I can see...nothing wrong with that.

    Mouser,
Why in the hell would you cross ANYTHING with an APBT? If you want smaller dogs because you're afraid of the stereotype that comes with the Pit Bull, you dont need this breed or anything of the like. As Pit bull owners that stereotype is something we all face everyday. You want to breed an APBT with some kind of terrier to acheive a small, less menacing looking dog? WTF? You're right, you can do whatever you want with your dogs and no one can do anything about it, but dont think you're going to get approval for taking another step towards ruining the breed that our predecessors worked so hard to build. There are SMALL pit bulls. Check out the "itty bitty pitties" thread. Maybe look into getting one of those before you cross shit up and end up with a litter of mutts, who will in turn make more mutts, and more and more....:(

Why not use an American Bulldog or a catch weight APBT? Why cross???
