I guess you did NOT get my whole point on "HEAR SAY", the only thing you focused on was "someone like you" LMAO..in which it was not even meant in a bad way toward you but I guess everyone has there insecurities. LMAO

I did NOT ask you to post your credentials of what you (yep I did that,LMAO) did as its irrelevant to the point. LOL

Whats funny to me is that when I call someone on there bullshit/mistakes , they think that I am asking them to prove there credentials LMAO , FAR FROM IT.

I dont know wtf you are talking about liking what you like or saving money as that has nothing to do with our convo. Like ive said though the dumbing down of america is working. LMAO

Thanks for contributing to my study. LMAO

OK experienced carpet mill hands ( S. ) I welded up A frame Found some super smooth Teflon about 3/16" thick I'm thinking of gluing it to some 1" marine plywood! Anybody see A problem with this ?? Then some high quality carpet and use graphite to prevent drag, see any problems with this? The end wheels will be split high quality hospital cart wheels and aluminum tubing, between them on each end!

I did comment in that direction. You said you heard. I said I used. For me, I heard and I used are very far apart.

You used the phrase 'someone like me', so I gave a little insight on 'someone like me', not to hide an insecurity but to give a little more insight.

As far as 'dumbing down America', I am not exactly sure where that is going either. I will let that rest.

It was not about the direction of the comment but I guess you do not see it, no biggie. LOL

Again you are only focusing on the pharse someone like me, you do not see the rest but oh well. LOL

Yes lets let it rest as I have already confirmed my suspicions. LMAO

I like that carpet mill for what it is. If you try one of those hand pull tests the belt won't even make one full turn. But regardless I've had dogs work it much longer than that silly 10min max people like to throw out.

I have run dogs for much longer than the 5min/10min minimum I see posted a lot. That 5/10 minute rule stems from the myth of carpet mills and kidney failure.

The GCM mill I spoke of we ran much longer times than 5/10 minute runs. Never lost a kidney during that time.

It is easy to blame something else when things go south. Take a fat dog, with a couple of dumps in him, dehydrated and put him on the best slat mill on the planet and harm will be done. Take the same dog and get him fit, emptied and water right and he can drive a hard turning carpet mill for long periods of time. No issues.

The first carpet mill I ever saw was a piece of plywood at better than a 45 degree angle, wrapped it 70's style heavy jute back carpet, sliding around two stationery 6" PVC pipe. It looked like the dog was climbing a wall. I don't remember kidney damage back then either.

  7. I've seen a couple GCM in person and dozens more on video, and the one Naustroms owns in the video is by far the smoothest I've seen. Must be raining holy water down there Naus. LOL

Slim, you would get my money before GCM would. ;)

Your right. It was on YouTube if I remember. He was showing how to build the carpet mill. Also someone was selling plans to build a carpet mill including the end rollers. It was a while ago.

Anyone know of someone making carpet mills in Canada? Have an e-mill but I'd love to try a carpet mill, just don't want to get gouged on international shipping.

Build your own slim12 had amazing plans I built one sold it and I am currently building one with larger rollers like slims. Slim has the carpet/belt mill mastered. And the materials are cheap just need a few tools like table saw and drill press

Mastered is a really big word, but thanks for the props.
The carpet mill is an awesome tool. An amazing tool when comparing investment to return. Minimal investment. Great return.

    Again, thanks.

Hope all is well with you and yours. And as always, I thank you young boys/girls who are currently serving our country.

Emill/Carpet/Swim are my preference. I am pretty sure the benefits have been covered. I have slats but most of my dogs don't do well on them. I have seen some work jennys and the ones that do well on them are powerful explosive animals. < Prolly the trickiest to master..as Slim posted about kidney failure I do believe in the 5/10 minutes rule, why risk it. Its a f'd up thing to work one in an afternoon only to see it shutdown and keel over. I am surprised that hasn't come up more on this thread.
Wanted to say thanks to Naus/Slim and Sai for keeping this thread interesting lol. I only skimmed through it but I think what should be emphasized is every dog is different! From chasing rocks to chasing roosters ...hand/vehicle walking while having coffee or whatever motivates your dogs. Trot said it best on not relying on one certain thing. More so its about what the dog prefers not you. Jack of all trades, master of none should be the goal.

Like the saying you dont tailor the dog to fit your keep, you tailor the keep to fit your dog.

My dad I always saw him using the e mill so I use it and the carpet mill. Carpet mill was rough at first but slim gave me a few tips and I finally got the hang of it I think I do anyway

I have always thought the carpet mill gets a bum wrap on its link to kidney failure. There is no real link between the two. When a dog's kidneys fail it is usually a genetic issues or a pre-existing condition that had not been identified prior to work. If a dog has healthy kidneys a person has to make several bad decisions in consecutive order, or the repeating of several bad decisions over time to hurt the kidneys.

Choose to work a dog prior to being empty. Choose to work a dehydrated dog. Feed crappy proteins that are not easily digested. Choose to do any of these three things and hand walking becomes the same as those 'killer carpet mills'. One could remove hand walking and fill in the blank with any other form of exertion.
The only carpet mill concession I will make is that a hard turning mill may get one to kidney issues a little faster but the carpet mill is seldom, if ever, the root cause.

Slim i was referring to jenny's as the 5-10 minute rule. I love carpet mills and have had no problems working dogs on them with ZERO kidney failures. A few years ago there was bad mofo chasing a GrCh only to be put on a friends jenny for about 7 minutes and he shut down a few minutes later. Craziest thing ive ever seen.

I think being consistant in all aspects of conditioning will yield good results. Work with what your athlete likes and use it to your advantage.

That is a good rule as well. If the dog likes and works equipment A really well then equipment A should be the staple and everything else should be used to supplement. Some dogs just do it all. They are few and far between as a percentage.

The dogs off Patrick's Kasai would spin a mill like a grown dog at 8 weeks old. For whatever reason, they were not freaked out by being 'up on the mill'. When their feet hit the mill they started walking. Really cool. As they got older they just picked up the pace and would go all out for no more reason than to go all out.

My Mim's dogs on the other hand have to be taught. It is a tedious process. Some get it in short order, some take a little more time and some never do.

I have had a few over the years that would do nothing. US1 Chloe (Kasai X Miss Two Eyes) missed the working gene Kasai was throwing. Her brother Cornbread just maxed anything that took physical exertion. He was 100mph on everything he did.

US1 Abu (Virgil X Mayday X RBJ) loved a four wheeler. We covered miles and miles around the farm to the point if I took him off the chain he pulled toward the four wheeler. He would stand under the arm I built off the rack and wait to be hooked up.

I prefer the end result of the carpet mill over any other tool in the shed. But at the end of the day it is what the dog 'prefers' that really matters.

always great series of posts slim,,,
something else that plays a key part into kidney failure or any other organ failure is what goes into them and what comes out,,,
flushing the system before a keep and keeping it clean during as well as the dogs over all health has a lot to do with
what they can or can not endure and necessarily the type of mill or work out...

    Does anybody use K-ease???
