what happened to the APBT?

Discussion in 'APBT History' started by captainofcrush, Oct 9, 2007.

  1. I have been browsing around on the internet lately at pit bull farms only to find that the American Pit Bull Terrier seems to be extinct. What is it with these breeders who breed giant bulldozing 100+ pound dogs and claim they are American Pit Bull Terriers? How could one even be fooled into thinking these dogs are purebred pit bulls? Are these dogs able to be registered under Amstaff or APBT since they exceed the weight limit of 65 pounds by almost double?
It seems to me that the APBT breed is transforming into a completely new breed and so is the public perception. Few people today can recognize a true APBT and many Americans are getting into this "macho kick-ass!" theme with dogs and they want a barrel with pegs for legs to be called a pit bull so they can feel powerful, like they're carrying a loaded gun. Not only is this destroying the APBT reputation and heritage but it's the worst excuse for a guard dog I've ever seen! If these dogs were people, they would need someone to wipe their ass for them. They would probably sweat just from standing up. A cocker spaniel would be better at chasing off an intruder!
Does anyone know any websites of breeders that still breed the original American Pit Bull Terrier? I am having trouble finding any in my town and most people I have talked to have said things like, "if the dog aint over 70 pounds, it aint a true pit". Their knowledge and credibility with dogs is completely worthless in my mind. Any information of breeders will help, thanks.

Oh there is pleanty of honest folks out there breeding decent bulldogs instead of that crap.them are what you call a backyard breeder and they will only be around till the next fad comes along where they can line there pockets.sad thing is though that them poor things and all their unhealthy dieing offspirng will still be around giving American Pitbull Terriers a bad name.they register them as APBT's but here recently they are telling a smidgen of truth saying there is a little bit of other breeds in them and calling them American Bullys.

Seems to me that if you found this forum, you're well aware that there are good bulldogs out there. Not saying you're fishing for information, but these days you can't be too careful. Plenty of good APBT to be had and they still make wonderful family pets. If you're looking for a guard dog however, you may want to consider a Doberman or GSD.

ok i agree with everyone here that a pitbull is what a pitbull is. but to say that a pitbull is not a evolutionary dog is totally ludacris pitbull dogs were dogs that fought good no matter what they were, and as these dogs evolutionize (if thats a word) you will find more and more uses for them granted the bully dogs are 'to me" worthless but a good weight pull dog, hog catching dog or whatever is part of the changing of this breed right or wrong but "DOG FIGHTING IS ILLEGAL" many people here talk about their conformation and many here dont have a clue they want a pretty skinny dog having no idea about a pit dog. the skinnnier they are the better chance at winning a ribbon. i dont believe that is right anyone can suck a dog down and stand in front of someone they dont know and say "hey does my dog look good" im not saying at al weight pull is the way to go but atleast the dogs decide who wins, as soon as their is something that says a judege doest decide on what is a good dog or not i might get into it, until then i let my dogs do the deciding. if you think this is wrong im sorry i mean no disrepect to anyone but honesty why let someone else determine how good a dog is, why not let the dogs decide it in a legal fashion.
