I am the responsible party?

Discussion in 'Chit Chat' started by confederatemule, Jan 20, 2008.

  1. I think this is the correct place.
I went over to a sort of neighbors house, honked my horn, he came to the door and stuck his head out, and I told him I did not want his dog on my place again. Point blank, no introductions, no nicities, just keep ye dog off of my 20 acres. He threw his arms up and said; "He just runs loose" and went back in the house. I been here fer 30 years, every one knows who I am and some don't like me. That is very good. I did not know this feller and don't want to.

I go back to the house (mine). And ,in a few minutes there is a knock on the door, it is his wife. She wanted to know if her dog did something to upset me? I told her yes, he was running loose on my place. She saw no problem with that. I told her That if I had to keep my dogs up so should she. She informed me that if one of my dogs (on a chain which she thonks is cruel) comes in heat and her dog comes over and breeds her then I am the responsible party for not properly putting my dog up.

Ye know !!! I can't stand people!!!! I can't stand the way they think!!!
She may be right as far as the "system" sees it, but they are nuts!!! I wish I could hide in my own yard. I nearly do.

BTW... The wifie asked me if I knew who she was, I said no, do you know me? She said oh yes. She said it would be best if I did not know who she was, but I now know. One of my daughters was married to her nephew at one time. It was not pretty.

Just wanted to vent a little, ain't nobody here, right now, but me. So I unloaded on Y'all. Sorry. Please forgive me.

actually in most areas its your responsibility to keep your dog on a leash or in your yard and I know of nowhere where you can let them run loose willy nilly. It is also mostly legal in rural areas and sometimes written as a obligation to citizens to eliminate any animals that are causing damage or harming livestock or property. Your dog is properly contained and theirs is harming your property with potential disease and mutt puppies. Shoot the damn thing and bury it somewhere obscure. Do you have any livestock or chickens or anything? Not that you should go out and buy any but thats another good cover to add to the dog thing say it was terrorizing them which it would be anyway...but the dog thing is enough to me, if you shot it you can say your dog is legally contained on your property and you dont want her being polluted with disease and puppies from another stray dog which could damage her and reduce her to having mixed mutt puppies for one of her cycles for nothing that you would have to care for. Legally I see possible damages and you could probaly eliminate it no ?s asked but check your local law. I would do it no hesitation if it was really a problem.

  3. well here is what you do you done warned them once. their dog runs loose on your properety again just shoot it and burry it somwhere on that 20 acres no one would know but you.

I wouldnt waiste my breath anymore. If you cant make that lady take care of her dog at large.....Then maybe you should do what she cant seem to an put that sob on the chain, or cull him.

Let her come look for him, she is a sorry ass dog owner with no sense!

  5. Here in the North part of East Texas, you'll be locked up in a heart beat for shootin a dog.
Also don't hit live stock on the road. You are liable for the damages unless you can proove the animal is out on a regular bassis. Texas still has open rangelaw in effect. I know this from experience. A cow hit my wife's truck, she did not hit the cow. We talked to lawyers and judges, did no good. We had to fix the truck and I made some more enemies. Oh well, who gives a big rats petudy.

I would catch it and turn it over to animal control as I've done many times with peoples dogs that will not stay out of my yard...but I do get harassed by the neighborhood so it has made me a sourpus on their kids or dogs coming in my yard....the dogs dig under or jump and the kids just seem to come through my gate which has had to be pad locked even with signs posted they still come in to see the pretty dogs.

  7. I have a live trap large enough for a catahoula, so....

I'll probably get the law involved. I'm in too bad of health and too tired for this crap. I do my best not to be a bother to other people. Why can't they do the same. Then when I try to get them to do what is rite, I am wrong.

What ever happened to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

In other words ... Treat other folks like you wanna be treated.

That would make life so much easier.

So they have open range laws for "Dogs" in texas? I understand the Cow and Bull thing but not domestic pet excuse. There is no qualifiable excuse in my mind to let them roam and not expect someone to get mad or protect their property if it is damaging it. Doesnt make any since, dont you also have a law in TX protecting your right to defend your property. Which a dog is classified as property. And if another is damaging it or harassing it you cant legally do nothing or what? I wouldnt expect that in TX....John Wayne would be pissed.

  11. I sure am glad it's not like that here in SC! If an animal damages your property or is a threat, you can shoot em, and your pets MUST be contained on your property. I'm sorry for you having such stupid neighbors.

yup, i sure find the ignorance of most people regarding their animals and their responsibilities pertaining to them amazing...... ......good luck and yea, if your laws are that stringent, call AC, again, and again and again.....

  14. Look my man I have family in Tx. and that law you speak of only applys to agr. livestock, you have talked to them and told them you have a problem with someone or something that they own or are responalbe for, now the law would want you to call them if there are anymore issues but your in Tx where a MAN can be shot for coming on your property the next time that dog comes on you land ask the dog to leave if it dosn't then your life may be on the line :) so protect yourself then go call the law or be kind and bury it...

I have had this problem before as well, I don't now............

well about the cow.... we had one get out of a field with a perfect fence.... was in the road and she hit it..... had a inspector come and look that morning at everything and told the lady that there is nothing that can be done to us as far as us being responsible. as far as the dog..... What dog?

Well, don't they sound like responsible owners. "oh he just runs loose." It's nice like he is a human who you can't tell what to do. It is their responsiblity to keep that dog off your property. What if one of your dogs get ahold of that dog and kill it? I know they'll blame you, but it's really their fault. People are idiots. We had to tell our neighbor the same thing. He is my boyfriend's ex-wife's cousin. He was pretty cool about it though. I haven't seen his dogs since we asked him to keep his dogs on his property.

  18. Well, maybe they will put it up. If not I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I've thought about letting the dog in my avitar loose when the stray comes on my property. He is DA. But I won't.

What is legal for most folks, is illegal for me & my family. And them are some sorry sob's. As some of you may know, the sorrier ye are the more the system will do for you. Cause sorry people keep the system going. The system being anything to do with government or law inforcement.

Put the dog on the chain or take it to the pound. She might come looking for it and she might not. But I dont have to tell you or anyone else what kind of trouble that can cause for your yard, esp if that dog continues to run loose.

Wow out here the law would rather you take care of it, that way they don't have to. The city is different. I have called the law and their response was, 'can you take care of it or do you need help'. Told em I could do it and they said go right ahead. If something happened in my yard, then no one would know but if one of my dogs chased the other dog off my property then it would be bad, I cannot afford for that to happen. It also suprises me that there are not responsibilities for farm animals to be contained.
