what kind of ak do you plan on picking?ive had a couple of buddies that have had some and they were all junk.imo i would put ak last on your list of military rifles, put m1 first.imo your glock pistol was a great choice.i own a glock and it is really reliable.cant go wrong with glock.i know the mini 14 isnt a military rifle but a lot of the law enforcement have adopted it and imo that would be a better choice than an ak.

AK's are one of the simplest, most reliable assualt rifles since its conception...no other weapon has been in every single war/ conflict after WW2, its a rifle that has changed and molded the majority of the world governments/ military. ANYONE can pick up an AK and be taught everything about it in minutes, that and its reliability is why militias worldwide pick the AK. its history speaks for itself there...but if i had to pick a classic weapon i would choose the chi town choppa...haha thats right the thompson baby.

Was looking at a Yugo but will probably pick up a Romanian. $350 new. I could spend more on something "nicer", but that pretty much defeats the purpose of having a cheap dependable gun. They have some for $7-$800, but for that money I can get a AR-15.

I heard the Viakong would hide them in rice pattys and pick them up days later. Yeah they are reliable weapons and pack a punch too. Both of those things they have over an AR.
If you are looking at ak's stay away from the wasr. I dont personally own one but they are bottom of the barrel. Check out the vectors or the M70's. I think the m70's are yugo

As a matter of fact, I sure do!

I have a Keltec 9mm that I absolutely love. The hubby bought me a youth model 243 and 20ga to go hunting with him.

    But here's the best...the AK

I have to agree the mini 14 and mini 30 are awesome weapons.I own one of each and the best part is there are not on any ban list's........yet!Another good choice is an SKS.They are a blast to shoot and will feed just about any type of 7.62 ammo.It used to be super cheap to shoot, but now $$.Anyone know where to get cheap ammo anymore?Lead is going through the roof.I asked a buddy about that and he told me the Chinese are building 15 nucluer reactors and they line them with 17 feet of lead.

I love seeing all the ladys that shoot,I taught my little girl to shoot when she was 6 yrs old.Shes in high school and can out shoot most of the boy's.

These are just off the top of my head. Usually decent prices. But shipping will get ya.
If you can find cheap ammo at cabelas i believe they are having a flat shipping rate of 5$ for over 100$ spent.

i was gonna go for the cdp II .45, but since the birth of the handgun, through 2 world wars and any other major conflict, the 9 mm has killed more ppl worldwide than any other caliber handgun.

and since most altercations involving handguns take place at less than 12 ft, you better hope your first shot hits its mark.

and how often i shoot, i consider myself a damn good shot, and you can bet your ass i'll have my target re-acquired a helluva lot quicker firing a 9 than a 38, 40, or 45.

    :D

1100 bones was a bit of cheddar, but like you said, it is a really nice piece.

monday after i picked it up, i put over 400 rounds through it, and it didn't lock up or jam once. better performance than i can say for my glock 19 or s&w 1911, both of which will encounter problems every 100-150 rounds. and both of those have over 5000 rounds through each one.

A .380 is a fine caliber. I also have a .380 pistol, a Bersa 380 wich looks a lot like the walther ppk. but thats my boot gun for when a large semi auto is out of the question.

Weird... I just went in today to break in my new G23 and me & my buddy put 250 rounds through it in less than an hour with no type of problem. Even with rapid fire (13rds) I was hitting the kill zone @ ~15-20yds. Only had 3 outliers from all 250rds miss the target and that was @ >25yds rapid fire. Purely user error :o

I agree the 9mm has come a long way as far as bullet configuration...but so has the 45acp.When I started to do some combat type shooting, out of all my handguns nothing imo came close to my para p14 45.John Mosses Browning had his shit together when he came up with that one.It was a sad day when the millatry dropped it.But I see alot of them are going back to it.

    might be. *shrug*

but that thing gets cleaned regularly, has the springs changed every 2000 rounds, etc etc.

i'll say the g19 has less problems than the s&w 1911, but problems all the same. and it's not that i'm using cheap ammo, or ammo with too much kick behind it (possibly causing the next round not to load properly, or whatever the case may be), or somehow managing to load my magazines improperly.

you can call olde english gun shoppe north of dayton, OH where i got all of my pistols from. every gentleman who you talk to will tell you the same thing. they all used to recommend glocks, you know, since "they're the preferred sidearm of law enforcement nationwide, blah blah blah."

but after getting their ccws, and actually carrying the firearm and using it on a more regular basis since it was part of their daily routine, not a single one of them out of over a dozen carries/recommends a glock anymore. and i don't think all of their firing problems/reliability issues were due to user error.

jmo, and it's based off experience.

that's not to say either one of those won't give me a tight 2 inch grouping at up to 10 yards. after 12 yards, it's hard to keep the .45 tight firing "rapidly." the g19 i can keep in a good 1.5-2 inch group up to 15 yards. i don't waste my time with much more range than that, since if i ever have to fire on someone, chances are it'll be closer than that.

so you like your g23? i'd actually considered the g27, kind of small, but the sub compact actually fit my hand fairly well. (the .40 is a fun shoot, not much diff from a 9 though, we can argue that til the end of time). but i opted for the kimber after talking to a few guys for a couple hours at the store, firing one of theirs, and seeing what they bet their life on with carrying.

.22 shooter here. I love taking relatively long shots w/ my 10/22 out to 100yds on rabbit and squirrel. 10/22 modifies like a mo-fo, so I can switch from the heavy stock and barrel to the pistolgrip, short barrel w/ my BSA red dot scope and give them coons some bad news! Got the .357 w/ .38 +P Hydrashoks (I dare you to break in), more shottys than you can shake a stick at .410-12g. Fixin to pick up a <50rds fired AK in about a week and I am AMPED!!! Love the M-4 and the M-249 was a great friend of mine for a year, but for knock down power and never say die reliability, Mr. Kalishnikov had his sights right. That springfield XD has got my eye. Love the OD green!!! So that is next on the wish list.
