  1. Hi all ,
    Firstly,great informative site!

OK , I'm what most of you will call a 'petbull' owner .
    meh ... A Bull is a Bull .

    I'm a wife and a mother.
I'm actively involved in fighting BSL .
I currently only have the one bitch ( Jeep bred) and her 21 day old litter from my big boy who we sadly lost not so long ago .
It wasn't a planned litter, the big boy went through a window to get to the bitch.

I also run a Bully rescue so usually have the odd 1 or 2 free loaders lounging around the place as well .

okey dokie...thats me in a nut shell!

Hope to learn and enjoy more!

    Welcome! :)

And I too am wondering if you mean you're from Australia. Because APBTs are banned outright down there and I'm curious a) how you managed to keep/maintain your female there and b) how and why you even bred the dog.

  7. Hi APBT forever, Hope everythings Ok in your neck of the woods. :)
Miakoda I can answer the question about Australian dogs - I live there too. :)

The laws vary from state to state. As I understand it, (and this is from memory, so there may well be some errors, but it will give you the general idea) APBTs are legal in the Northern Territory and ACT with no restrictions at all on owning them. In Victoria and NSW they are a restricted breed - in practice that means that if the local ACO identifies your dog as restricted (most likely to happen if the dog attacks another animal or dog) it must be desexed and kept in a 10 x 10 metre cage with a roof and concrete floors so they can't dig or climb out. Within Qld, Vic & NSW dog registration is a local council matter, some councils pursue dogs viciously to the letter of the law, but many leave well enough alone provided the dog causes no trouble.

I am not sure of the laws in other states, I think in Western Australia they are a restricted breed, but the man responsible for identifying them as such appears to be anti BSL, and the law is not enforced. Tasmania I think is considering BSL legislation now. I am not sure of the Qld laws either, some councils appear to be good, but the Gold Coast council in particular does seem to confiscate and kill a lot of dogs.

I believe there were some good dogs imported here before the restrictions were put in place, straws of semen were also imported. Here's a thread with some of the dogs imported to Aus listed in it: http://www.allpitforum.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1196719217

There are a few people in Oz breeding good working dogs (pigs, weight pull etc) from good APBT lines. Unfortunately these are a small minority, most (my own dog included) have no papers or even verbal records of pedigree so there is no proof they are pure - what we mainly have here is Pit Bull crosses, not American Pit Bull Terriers. It angers me that people don't have these dogs of uncertain lineage fixed, but they don't, and as a result there are a hell of a lot of Pit looking mongrels around, and the BSL noose continues to tighten because of it.

Hopefully there is no misinformation here (as I've said I'm new to the breed, I don't claim any authoritative knowledge) - if anyone wants to correct any mistakes, that would be great.
