  1. Oh sure, i did not mean it never happens. I am sure there are people out there feeding gun powder, hot sauce, ect, etc....I am sure there are people doing whatever the Media says "dog fighters" do. These are the same people who have no clue of the TRUE purpose of dog matching.

In order to prevent animal suffering of this kind, H$U$ must stop spreading these myths. Unfortunately, propagating these myths is one of the main ways they get sympathy and donations. What do they care? They are the number one killer of APBTs.

Yes, using dogs as bait is moronic and useless for fight training purposes. That said, dog matching is absolutely, positively, and irrevocably necessary to preserve this breed up to standard. It is as true for this breed as it is for most animal breeds in nature; only the strong survives and procreates. That said, i also strongly believe MOST people should not engage in matching dogs. As previously expressed, these dogs MUST be given respect, love, and attention. If you cannot put Humpy Dumpy together again, watch but never do.

I understood your intend when creating this thread. I saw an opportunity to educate and took it. I apologize if my words sounded harsh. I enjoyed reading the story of how a pup at the precipice of death, turned around and ended in Eden's garden.

I hope we can educate you so you can educate others. I am certainly always willing to debate or chat about anything relating to our dogs' heritate, present, and future.

ABK, TripleJ, Chinasmom and SPF, best sh!t Ive read on this forum in months. Props to you for being so well versed. Imagine if football was outlawed and considered "human cruelty" and 32 years later there is a website celebrating the history of a sport that was embraced and loved by thousands and thousands of people. Then some ignorant asshole chimes in with "All football fans should die!" Really man, just because something isnt normal to you, doesnt mean its strange and "cruel" to everyone else. Some people were born into dogs. Rob, imagine for a minute your father teaching you something his father loved and tought him and his fathers father and so on, then one day its made illegal. Are you going to jump ship and join the masses because its the popular choice to make? I think not. You're on the wrong forum my friend. This site is for people who celebrate the HISTORY of our breed. Stop hating and try to learn the heritage of your beloved dogs. None of us condone cruelty to ANY animal. I would be willing to bet my dying breath that any true to heart dogman's animals are in better physical shape overall than 99.99999% of the pet bulls in this country. Thats a fact. Listen, learn then speak.

Good point here Rocky. rob, you might want to place your wrath, where your wrath is due. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) & PETA are the ones who taught the public the cruel methods of "training" a dog to fight.

As I mentioned before, gunpowder, kittens, hot sauce, bait dogs, etc. were absolutely unheard of before HSUS/PETA got involved in our breed & started trumpeting the cruel methods that "dog fighters" use to "train" their dogs.

Dog men are a very selective bunch of people & owning or fighting a pit bull will not get you into their trust. You have to be a person of honor, integrity & above all love of the dogs to be a dog man. The unworthies who were shunned by dog men weren't privy to the time honored ways of properly keeping & matching a dog. When HSUS & PETA began spewing their horrific scare tactics, guess who picked up on it & began doing it b/c it was what the "dog fighters" do? Yep, you guessed it. The unworthy, cruel, wanna-bes began doing it & thus HSUS/PETA's propaganda became a self-fulfilling prophesy.

So the next time you see a shredded bait dog, thank HSUS & PETA. Tell them you wish THEY were dead. They're the ones more responsible than any dog man.

Also, I wanted to say to everyone on here, there have been some great responses. Way to educate w/o bashing!

from my understanding and researching like everyone said no true dogmen would do that wat does it prove other than your dog can beat a puppy theat is some bull shit no true man would even think of such crap again dog men matched dogs to prove their dogs and better the breed so this i doubt would have happened pre 1976

Hey robc, this board can help understand a lot of the things said. And most importantly the truth from myths, from some one talking out the side of their neck to some one thats knows what they're talking about.Hope you'll stay around and learn things correctly,so you can go off your own understanding and not what some one else is trying to push off.....Truth be told that dog should have been put down, there's no telling what kind of physical and medical problems it will have in the future....And I'm still waiting for you to tell me what BSL means, cause honestly I don't think you know what it means,if you did your comments would have showed it...anyway like I said hope you stay around at least long enough to learn truth from myth....

Much of a dog's temperament relates to it's breed history and genetic inheritance. I won't go too deep into the history of the Pit Bull as there are many good books and websites that cover the origin and history of the breed. It is common knowledge however, that the Pit Bull breed was developed for blood sports: Bull baiting, bear baiting, and later, dogfighting. What is not common knowledge is that in the days of organized dogfighting, the handlers of the combatants were habitually IN THE PIT with the dogs for the duration of the fight. They were required to pick up and separate the dogs several times while the dogs were in full fight frenzy. Before the fight, the handlers were required to wash each other's dogs, and after the fight, the badly injured dogs were often treated at ringside by strangers. Any dog that attacked or bit a handler (even if it was the other dog's handler) or anyone else at any time was culled, often on the spot, and would never have been bred.

Dog fighting was outlawed in 1976 ;)

If it wasn't for the old timers doing things right, we wouldn't have the great temperamented dog we have today

ROBC, Would you hate dog fighters (professional) if dog-fighting was legal? I guess you will never have anything to do with dogmen from Balkan states, just because they fight their dogs.

Rob, before I came to this site and started to do some hard research on the breed, I thought any dogfighters (past and present) were a$$holes for fighting their dogs. I thought "how horrible those men must be to think seeing two dogs fight to the dead is fun". However, now I have educated myself. Are there dumba$$es who love to watch two dogs fight to the death? Yes, but the true Dogmen don't. I have a deep respect for Men like Garner, Colby, FB, etc. They truly care/cared about their dogs. It wasn't some sick pleasure. The Dogmen of the past made this breed into the top breed. The dumba$$es of today are the ones who are ruining it, and in many ways, the illegalizations of Dog Matching has made it a welcome sport to the Gutter trash who don't give two shits about the dogs they throw in together to fight, and it has ruined our breed. True Dog Matching of yesteryear and Dogfighting today are worlds apart.

Completely agree. That drives me insane.

A PB is driven to the fight...they do not need to be coaxed into it by any horrific method that was discussed in the Ops original post....paaalease. In the day of the Dogger "training a dog" meant conditioning it. A dog that needed to be coaxed into a fight was a cull.

A PB is also a dog, and a dog can be trained to be submissive to it's pack leader, much like a greyhound could be trained to "not chase the little white wabbit" by submitting to the demands of it's pack leader. Both situations are necessary when you displace the dog outside of its competitive environment. You don't want your pet greyhound chasing a bunny into oncoming traffic, just as you don't want your PB destroying your neighbors "ankle biter".

But would either of these be issues if the dog was allowd to work to the task it was bred for? The answer is no, as a matter of fact it takes a hell of a lot more work and consideration to create a suitable environment for dogs in this situation.

Now I am a Pet Bull owner, but I do know before the General Public got a hold of these dogs and the bleeding hearts destroyed the PBs competitive matching, they did not have to fear for their exisitance...now they do. Food for thought...and less judgement!

Any time anyone puts two dogs together and allows them to bite each other - no matter if they take care of the wounds after or not - I don't like it. It causes pain to the dogs and is wrong. Sorry, that's how I feel....rob
