Just about an hour ago I had a slight situation that almost escalated into a major disaster. Lucy, my Am staffie, was out going to the bathroom and enjoying outside for a while, along with my cockerspaniel. Well another dog came into our yard, approached Lucy, and let's just say Lucy started chasing it, the owners of the unknown dog finally caught it and left. I was just wondering if Lucy were to ever attack a dog while on the premesis of our own property and she's fully vaccinated, woud she be euthanized? I was more concerned for the other dog because I didnt want Lucy to bite it, but on the other hand, I dont really know if she would, she never shows aggression towards other dogs like curling her lips but her hair does stand up on her back, except when Ozzie goes by her when she has a bone, which we are working on. Has anyone ever had an experience similar too mine? The unknown dog seemed friendly and I think just wanted to play, but Lucy, it's really hard to tell what she would do and I didn't want her hurt or worse killed and I didn't want a lawsuit, even though the unknown dog was on our property.

The short answer: Get a fence. Put your dog behind the fence. No more problems with other dogs in your dogs face.

Your PIT attacks the neighbors dog and it doesn't matter whose yard it is in, she is going to be on the chopping block and so are you, no matter if it is fair or not. To own this breed you have to be BETTER than the average dog owner and that means your dog is contained and/ or on a leash AT ALL TIMES.

Check out the thread "DAMN IT" for some good suggestions.

in alot of places, it doesnt matter if it happens on your property or not- you are supposed to be in control of your animals at all times-no exceptions. so even if it DOES happen on your proerty, you can still be at fault.

Typically, if another animal comes onto your property, you have some measure of legal protection. However, if your dog runs off your property to chase another dog, chances are, it'll be 100% your fault, even if the other dog is out at the street carrying on like a looney bin. And if it happens once, or if folks come forward as say they've seen your dog acting aggressively, most courts will say that you've had "reasonable notice" that your dog might create a problem, and should have taken steps to prevent it.

You might want to pick up the book Dog Law. Read it while you're building a fence and putting up no-tresspassing signs. :) ("Implied invitation" is another thing that will get you. Don't know if that extends to dogs, though.)

  5. There is this beagle who always comes in my yard and Dante chases him out. Never attacked him though. He just chases him until he is out of the yard. I called Animal control and they said that if my dog is in my yard the owners of the other dog are at fault. They told me to make sure that my dog always has a collar along with his tags on. we don't have a fence so I tie Dante out sometimes. That way if another dog comes in my yard,he is chained up.

Your dog attacks or kills the Beagle, even if it is in your yard and he is chained out and you better believe the AC and neighbors will be after you no matter what the law is. Your dog will be marked dangerous for life.

Put up a fence and keep the breed out of the news.

Won't comment on the legal issues here, different towns have different laws regarding this....But just cause she doesn't snarl her lip, growl, or her hair stands up on end, doesn't really mean anything with this breed. Most breeds show signs, I have a few that will show the signs but I have more that don't show any signs at all, until it could be too late.
