I was checking out some breeders online and was thinking about getting a pup from out of state. I really don't trust shipping. I want to know how many of you had a pup shipped and if not what do you think about it?

The VERY best and most reliable way to have a PUPPY shipped is on a plane.
Its also the cheapest way, that I now of.

Delta, and American Airlines are very good, in my opinion.

I actually prefer ground transportation. I think it just depends whether or not you have a good or bad experience with one or the other. I have had bad experiences with flying dogs and better experiences when shipped on the ground. However, my partner prefers flying dogs also.

I never trust anyone with my dogs, so I believe your always taking a chance either way you go, but if you find someone you like than you stick with it!

We got our JRT from Oaklahoma, he was flown.

The experience was good, he arrived on time and we got him very shortly after the plane landed. The best advise, know who you are dealing with and make sure they have refferences that check out.

No I don't recommend shipping. I recommend going and picking it up, and meeting the breeder and checking out the dogs.

There are some good ground shippers, but I just prefer shipping by plane over ground shipping.

You definitely don't want to ship at this time of the year. It is too hot and moral at airlines is low right now...Chances are the workers are not going to really give 2 poops about your precious cargo.

I have shipped and received dogs all over the world. Nothing wrong at all with flying a dog if you can not drive and pick up the dog yourself. I have always used Delta to ship a dog here in the states. Excellent service and a fair price.

I have had good luck w/ Delta...but still would not ship until weather is cooler.

I have used Delta as well. But Dr. Jitsu is right about the temperature thing. Delta won't ship apbts if it is over 75 degrees outside. Also, they consider apbts in the same class as amstaffs and they are considered a snub nosed breed by them so they are strict with the temp regulations. I got my puppy just in time before it got too hot. We did a night flight and she flew for 8 hours. We got her almost as soon as the plane landed too. Excellent service. My breeder ships by air all the time and never seems to have any problems.
But me one the other hand, was nervous. Like someone else said, your animal is at the mercy of the people caring for it.

Make sure you ship in something sturdy like an aluminum Dog box

You can order them at this one spot here in Tampa, Fl-
    Emory's Topper Sales. 813-626-8701

All aluminum tubing & diamond tread plate.

  13. If you cannot pick up, air travel is the way to go. QUIK PAK continental or Delta are reliable sources at a reasonable rate (around $250). I don't recommend ground transportation because transporter can get stopped and accused of illegal activities leading your pup to a pound.
