An eventful past few days

Well, I have had some excitement the past few days, with a twist at the end that shocked me.

Well, Sunday afternoon my family and I had just got home from church, it was around 1:30 or so, and as we were getting out of the van several law inforcement vehicles and the friendly hsus happened along!! Well, my heart jumped into my throat. They had a warrant to search my house, and they did. They stacked all my dog stuff on the table and then went to asking me to confess to selling drugs, fighting dogs, and dealing in hot merchandise. Which was flat out crazy, cause I just simply dont do any of these things. They scared my children, interrigated my wife, it was pretty shaky. To make a long story short, after they didnt find anything in the house, they began to tell me that they were going to take my dogs and have them checked out, and if they did, I could have them back. Yea right! Well, the warrant said that they could search the house, but nothing about the yard, nor about confiscating the dogs. I was hot by this time. Usually I am very submissive around law inforcement to avoid more charges, but I'd had enough. I told them they had better not lay a hand on my dogs, and they looked at me like "what are you gona do", so I went back into my house and got my shotgun. I came back out on the front porch and put a round into the air and again told them you aint touching my dogs. Now I had their attention, along with their guns pointed in my direction. One of the deputee's came over and asked me to put my gun down. I told him that I was not stupid, and that I had read the warrant and that they had no right to take my dogs. I offered for them to get a vet over here to look them over, but that I knew what would happen to my dogs if they left with them.
This drew out for hours. I didnt know it, but my wife had called our vet and he came right over and whatever he said to them began to turn the tide. The vet and the HSUS looked over the dogs, and although they were not scratch free, they agreed that the dogs had not been fought. So they left, and took nothing!!
Now that is not the unexpected part. Tuesday I had another visit, this time it was only a deputy. He came and appaulagized for the incident. I asked what he was here for, and he said that he wanted to get one of my pups, and use it as his canine!! He said he saw something in them that he thought would work well for him. Turned out, a while back he had an AMSTAFF as his canine and, according to him, it was the best dog in the unit.
So,,, I am dumbfounded. At first I was scared, then I was mad, now I am speechless. He left with a nice 3mo old male, and although the whole deal was odd, we will have another breed advocate in the system, which is fine by me.
I asked why they came and he said someone had called and told them that I was dealing drugs and running a dog fighting ring, which all is un-true.

Anyhow, I hope never to go through an experience like that again. I am grateful to my vet. He really spoke up for me and the care of my dogs. It is all still kinda like a dream to me.

Holy moly is all I can say....I'm so glad nothing bad happened to you, your family and your dogs.

WTF is wrong with people...can't they mind their own damn business? Why do they have to look in other peoples' yards? Why? That pisses me off.

You should find out WHO reported you and go have a nice chat with them.

I have a hunch of who called them. A fella came by 2 or 3 weeks ago wanting to get a dog from me. Well, after conversation with him, I wouldn't let him have one. He got pretty offended by it, and started getting red till I shut him down.
That's the only person I have had words with in a while. I kinda feel like drugs were their #1 agenda, and used the dogs as an excuse. Another good thing that came out of this is that my two little girls, 6 and 9, are now very interested in fighting for the bulldogs and their owners rights. We may have two great breed advocates coming up!!

Just glad I am in Louisiana and not another place with a clear agenda to slaughter the dogs.

Hey Trip, yea, I been just lurking, not much to say. Been really going through it with my physical problems, trying to put off getting part of my spine removed and bones fused in. They say that there are 6 place that this needs to happen. It has been hard to accept for me.

My neighbor came by a little while ago, said they had questioned him about activity at my house. He told them that I was a good Christian man, and that there had never been much traffic here, and that my dogs were always fed and cleaned up after daily, and that even though there is no leash law where we are, my dogs were always put up, and never got out.

The whole thing was wierd. Another oddity is that there was no media there. I called the paper and the local news, we'll see if there will be any coverage of this.

Glad to here you are ok ! Man , If only more people would put the same passion in their dogs as you , our breed would be safe in no time . Hope ypou don't have any more problems like this ever .

  7. I'm glad they didn't take your dogs. I'm even more glad that you weren't shot. Most of the time, when folks wind up in a Mexican standoff like that with the cops the outcome is, well, you know. Anyway, I'm glad they let you guys alone, and came back and apologized later on.

Im still tripping out on you going out front and unloading one in the air, and the deputee's not arresting or shooting you.

Well Pig, I'm just glad that things went as well as they did. You couldn't ask for a better outcome and to say it could have gone a LOT worse is an understatement.

I hope the pup works out for the guy you gave him to.

Well done purple. People need to know there rights and stand up for them. props to you for grabbing your balls.

  11. That's some scary crap there, good job on sticking it to them and letting them know you weren't guilty and those dogs weren't going anywhere. Unbelievable. I'd be flaming mad.

That is just plain ole crazy there. Glad your vet could be reached. You did right. Make 'em get a warrant to seize those dogs.

I just wish it worked that way with all the others. Family and kids are fine. Wife thinks I'm crazy, as usual. Sometimes you just have to say enough is enough. We have to pick our fights, and if you are in the right, and feel the leading to act, go for it.
As to me getting shot, yea, I could have been. I made sure to not point the weapon in their direction, and make no quick moves. I fired into the air, cause they sure werent listening to me until I did that.

they all say "peace, freedom, security", and the whole time they are putting more and more chains on us.

Once again, I hope you never have to go through what I just did. It really messed me up internally, but you do have to know your rights. Also I believe having my vet show up, who is an upstanding member of our comunity, helped allot. If it had of been one of my old drug buddies, I'd probably still be in jail. So to put a finger on what helped is hard to put a finger on. There is one sure thing, the Lord was and is on my side, thank you Jesus!!!

Good man pig. I'm glad to hear that you stood up for yourself and all is well. It's about time those morons got some opposition. And whats even better is that you did it all the right way, legal and legit.

I guess I shouldn't call people morons. Sometimes i wonder how much blame can be put on people that don't really know any better. The real solution is to educate those folks.True most are too set in their ways to listen, but I guess it's up to people like us here on gamedog to stand firm and stay true to what we beleive in.At the end of it all, if we reached only one person then we won one battle in a raging war.

    Good job pig.

OMG I'm so happy you and your family are ok. So many times we hear something like this and the outcome is completely different. Good for you for standing up the HSUS and the police for trying to seize your dogs illegally.

    Wow.

Congrats on getting those guys to leave.

You are very lucky it went your way. Often times it is just a clear case of not knowing your rights or having the right kind of documentation to back you up.

Every bulldog owner should have several things to keep their dogs safe:

PHOTOS OF THE DOGS AT LEAST EVERY SIX MONTHS - not only hard copies but uploaded onto myspace or photobucket etc (somewhere they cant be confiscated and "lost" with evidence)

Documentation of all shots and vet care and licensing.

videos of dogs playing with you or your kids or eachother if you can help a lot too!

clean yard and living spaces of course!

knowledge of your RIGHTS in your area and the balls to stand up for them!

and if your dogs are outside you NEED to get surveillance to be sure no one comes on your property ILLEGALLY to look at your dogs or to let them loose and try to start some shit. Good Ol' J.P. Goodwin is just the type to come start a "yard accident" a day or two before a raid.

    AGAIN, CONGRATS!

why didnt they file assualt charges? assault is making someone fear for their life even if you dont hurt them. wouldnt pulling your gun and firing a round be assault.

way top stand up to them! but i think i would have been shot if i did that.

  18. Wholly crap Purple!! I am extremely glad that everything ended positive.

One thing though......I URGE you to investigate why a search warrant was even signed by a judge. Seriously. It seems we have become accustomed to letting law enforcement into our private space for no reason at all. We have a right to privacy. Owning dogs does relinquish that right.

A judge MUST have a substantiated reason for signing a search warrant. Why is no one focusing on this? Am I forgetting a portion of the law that permits them to search property at their leisure?

You seem like a very good guy Purple Pig....and with some big cojones. I am a stand up guy but never would I shoot a gun around cops.....I would end up as another case of "sucide by cop".

I never threatened anyone. Where I live, assault charges are verbal attacks, and battery is physically attacking someone. Of course there was allot of threats from them, just didnt feel like typing for an hour to give a word for word.

In the state of Louisiana, you have a right to protect your property. All I did was get their attention, in a very effective way. Did they threaten to haul me in? Yes. Did they pull their weapons on me? Yes. I spoke the them in a manner and tone that showed respect, yet I wasnt gona let them run over me. And if they had of shot me, well, I recon sometimes I just dont think. But I do know this, some things are worse than being shot.

You cannot depend on the law to do the right and legal thing, sometimes you have to defend your rights. If you dont, they'll take everything you let them.

Those who know me, know I dont go around starting trouble, but I will meet it head on. Are you telling me that you wouldnt have done what I did? That may be the reason we are facing the crap we are. Now, had I not of had all my ducks in a row, then it would have been a totally different story.
