Obama isn't really the president

It's no secret that Chief Justice John Roberts got the words wrong to the US presidential Oath of Office when he presided over Barack Obama's inauguration in January. Some constitutional scholars grumbled that getting the right words jumbled invalidates the oath, but most lawyers agree its just semantics.
The more troubling problem with Obama's inauguration is, in fact, when he said it. Under Amendment 20 of the US Constitution, the term of the outgoing president ends at exactly noon on January 20, and "if the President-elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President-elect shall act as President". Well, at exactly noon on January 20, 2009, Vice-president Joe Biden had already been sworn in (he took the oath at 11.57am), but Barack Obama hadn't - the musical interlude ran over time until 12.05pm. So, under the terms of the Constitution, by noon the President-elect had failed to qualify, so the real President is now... Joe Biden.

why so hostile? i thought it was an interesting and disturbing piece of trivia that shows how fragile are government can be. to think the fumbling of a few words or the time of the day in which things can occur could dictate whether the leader of the free world is ready to take office disturbs me. i doubt anyone would challenge his presidency over something like that though. i still "fantasize" about the days Clinton was president. doesn't mean i don't love my country, and it has nothing to do with race. even if someone doesn't agree with who the president is, doesn't mean they should leave the country. that's why we have elections and we vote for who we think best fits the duty.:rolleyes:

Obama won the election fair and square. There's no doubting it. I had to bang my head for 8 years with the idiocy of bush... so glad he's out of there. And we were paying over 3 bucks a gallon for gas (in okla) for a long time.. when bush was out.. now we are paying 1.50 to 1.60 a gallon! Now thats a relief.

 

The "idiocy of Bush" is still going strong with the new leader. Especially since he just shat in the face of everything he stood for pre-election. I'm seriously LOLing at the still euphoric feeling people are having of someone that is bound to outspend Bush in his first term. Probably even his first year.

OP- He retook it that night, too. He is president whether we like it or not. Just gotta weather the storm and wait for some true conservatives to rise in power. I'm seeing a replay of the Carter/Reagan era.

 

Eh... I used to be left wing.... I don't really consider myself either anymore.. theres conservative views that I respect and liberal views. I'm still more liberal, thats just in saying I respect people of other race, sexual orientation, I have friends of different race, and I have friends that are in a lesbian relationship, Pro decriminalization of mary jane, free her already! Alcohol and ciggerettes kill thousands in a year...and they are legal. Now a little green plant... that is not addictive... has no links to cancer or heart disease. I think its Psychologically addictive. But not physically. It can become part of your lifestyle, but so can having some drinks or smoking ciggs. I know plenty of people who are very productive people.. not lazy losers as tv ads would have you believe. Shit, how much can you believe on tv anymore?

Sex education schools. I don't think straight abstenince preaching is going to work at all. When I was in school we were taught about STD's, with nasty graphic pictures... taught about safe sex practices, pregnancy, what you didn't learn in school you were for sure going to learn about it through your friends. I don't think schools need to hand out condoms... but if you go up to planned parenthood or whatever they will give you a paperbag full of them for no charge. There are ways to practice safe sex and teens need to know how to do them! Our teen pregnancy rate is so high... I credit that to bad parenting and bad sex education.

There was an article written that talked about your OP. He actually had it down to Condoleeza Rice being president for a short amount of time since Obama didn't take the oath on time and he thought Biden didn't, either. Turns out Biden did take it before noon and Obama took it (2x). It was interesting until the facts came out.

On a side note, listen to what Alan Keyes was saying on Feb. 19th. lol....

It was already passed (~$800B) followed by another $400B spending bill to get us through Sept right on its heels.

all i know is i'm in the wrong business. those ceo's are getting millions of dollars in bonuses for doing a shitty job. it's damn near impossible to get a raise for doing a good job at a factory. i can run a business into the ground so i guess i better apply to be a ceo. gotta love the way our tax dollars pay to bail out people's screw ups. then they use those tax dollars to pay for million dollar bonuses to people who are still screwing up. i especially love how that guy spent like $75,000 of our tax money to remodel his office. oh i forgot, we are getting something out of the deal, $18 of our own freakin money added to our check.

 

Well I think it's great for people that are barely scraping by to make a living. And they are working a minimum wage job, or a part time job because a full time position is not available. And then when you have kids... so I think it is good for people who really need it. And people on disability too.

 

Although these aren't the people I'm talking about.

But, for example, if your mortgage is 38% which is soon to be reduced to 31% of your income, you really shouldn't have bought the house. Now, who is going to make up for that lost 7%? Tax payers that make good decisions.

That statement makes you an idiot, pure and simple. You should be making the statement "I'm happy that we have a president that seems to be a great man, a great leader, and might save this country from its slippery slope of regretful problems." THAT would be a decent statement of joy about Obama being in office.
