confess: who has "those" kind of dogs

..the ones that eveyone one here seems to yell "shoot it". the ones that people cant seem to properly asess and call "human aggressive". the ones that are fine in your home/handling, but might be dubbed "HA" when tried to be handled by someone else.
im calling BS on us all.
(this stems from the sit means sit video thread)

i will be the first to admit- i have dogs that fit that bill. hell, Dimitri who just passed away fit it to a T, many of you on here have seen him and know what im talking about- he was a handful, and was an angelic compared to what he was like when he came to me. took a few months to get his manners right, and curb his mouthyness, but to most everyone here lately it seems "put a bullet in his head" would be the proper course of action i should have taken....yet he passed his CGC.
how many of you have ever even had hands on experience w/ a "HA" dog, let alone seen one in person? im betting those that yell the loudest have the least leg to stand on. you cant judge a dogs temperment by watching a 3 minute video of a dog "in training"

so who else? fess up. im first-who else is man/woman enough to look in the mirror and see the truth?

I have a dog in my home who has snapped at a child. She will NEVER leave my house alive, but is fine living here with my fiance and me.

I have had several HA APBT's however they were that way because I encouraged them to be that way (which in my opinion is different than say getting one that just is naturally turned on to humans), I realize it's not a desirable trait to have in these dogs but I sleep good at night knowing that no one and I mean no one without a tranq is going to steal one of my dogs, you'd probally get that a$$ chewed up, however these types of dogs require special attention to ensure you have total control of them at all times and there definitly not for everyone. Now I don't group them with true HA dogs because If I invite you in my house their big babies and want nothing more than your attention as long as you don't do anything stupid around me or my lady or the kids, invited being the key word here. Once you leave, their attitude will drasticlly change towards you. I stopped encouriging this in my dogs once I bought my first house because I can't afford to take a hit like that.... But they will still aggressivly bark and act a fool when people come and knock on the door, but like I said once your in your good to go.......I have had 1 true HA APBT and he made it to about 4 years of age before he needed to be put down.

2 of mine are 'selective' around people. They both come from pretty crappy situations, one was 2 when we got him, the other was almost 8 when we got her. We are still assessing the female but so far she has made huge progress. The male is more just protective of his people, he's fine if you tell him otherwise and properly introduce him to people. He's my jogging buddy late at night and is very watchful of those around us and shady looking people.

I started dock diving with the male shortly after we got him and while he loved it, I don't think he's fit for it anymore. He's not stable enough in large groups of people and around strange dogs so it's best for him to just stay home. The female will stay put as well.

All, well most of you, know about all the problems I've had with Rebel. His HA is based out of fear. Though I have tried just about everything humanly possible, he still does not like people except those in his pack. He has been neutered and will live his life out here with us.

I do have an APBT/AST/Bully male that has what I like to call stranger aggression. If he don't know you...he don't like you. I like it that way. :D He is the yard dog around here and keeps my bulldogs and personal property safe. Would I accept this in an APBT...NO. There are enough breeds out there where it is acceptable but not in a true bulldog. I know some great winners back in the day were manbiters and were tolerated if they were good matchdogs but the way things are now...they are just a damn liability. It's best to just cull em out, IMO.

Well what would you call the dog in that video...If he wasnt muzzled he wouldve chewed that guys ass up. To me a HA dog will bite anyone, including owner... People can play retarded all they want, but you know when a dog is a manbiter.

Im not experienced enough to handle a dog like this and i really have no desire to. I would have no joy in keeping a dog like that. Me personally i would put it down. I wont talk down on someone that chooses to keep a dog like that but they should understand they carry the breeds reputation in their hands and containment should be their main priority. i have heard a couple well respected people say they have dogs like that and keep them in their breeding programs though.

the dog in that video needs work no doubt about it- but i wouldnt rush to judgement that it was HA- did you watch the whole thing? you might want to watch it again. strangely enough- it didnt eat him when they took the muzzle off ( and its not like alot of time had passed either)
if the dog was truely HA it would have ripped him a new one when the muzzle came off

Not arguing with you, but im pretty sure it took him longer than 3 minutes to get that dog under control... But like I said , when people are determining whether or not their dog is HA or just a nut case that needs some working with, they need to be as honest as possible...They need to put aside the bond, the cost,etc... But i believe all truely HA dogs should be put down...

i've had experience w/ ha dogs. i have one on my yard right now who was ha when i saved her. the guy who had her before starved her and his dad beat her w/ a 2x4. she was extremely aggressive toward new people, but never the children. that would've immediately ended her life. i didn't just push my kids toward her, but she never showed any signs of aggression when they were outside. anyway, long story short, we were able to change her ways. if not, then i would've done what was right for me, her, and the breed. even though she's different now, i still wouldn't have trusted anyone else to handle her while she was like that. if we didn't curb the behavior she wouldn't have left the yard. i will not risk the safety of my children with a dog that can't behave properly. rules of my yard: no aggression toward children, period, under any circumstances, and if i can't change your mind about aggression toward adults, then my .22 will. sorry if that seems harsh, but i'm not willing to take chances. some behavior can be altered, but some cannot.

Personally,if I had a dog like that I would shoot it.It might be ok with some people and if someone had a dog like that and wanted to work with it,that's fine with me,but I won't.But I guess I might be a little selfish,I own dogs because I enjoy them.If one is a constant irritation to me,then I'm going to get rid of it.There's plenty of dogs that I can get along with for me to mess with a problem, life's to short to be irritated every day.
