it just that you always read on here breeding for color is bad breeding for color is bad
but
if every pup in the litter is black
you keep them all
work them in their trade
cull
breed then that litter is all black
and you continue because the quality of dogs is are great
would that be concidered as breeding for color
cause quiet naturaly your line would be black im guessing

take a family of dogs from some one and start breeding them for your purpose, they arnt that original family anymore, youve just put your own influance to em. in answer to a few post with colour... some use this, and it is called phenotype. But in alot of cases if someone just happens to have black dogs, dont mean theyre breeding for black dogs, but they will use the best of those dogs.
if i had say a really good black male and bred him to a red female, i would be looking at the black males first. But, lets just say the only good one i got was a red one and i then bred that, i would be looking at one that resembled and acted like that red one, i could go back and forwards, at the end of the day do you realize it dont matter a stuff if its red or black lol...
in some cases, yes the majority of good dogs within a line may have been a certain colour, thus most will allways be that colour, dont mean someoe set out to breed that colour. the sooner people get over the colour thing, the better the dogs will be. get hold of a good red boudreaux dog, and see what ya get lol...

 

You are missing the point. Color type/phenotype breeding method is just a tool for breeding. One thing among manny that should be considerd when looking at breeding dogs. If one breeds souly on color and color alone thay are Color Breeders.

but to me when and if I decide to breed a dog

my priorities go in this order

purpose- this is what the main goal is cause if it cant do the job who cares what color it is

confermation-cause you should beable to look at the dogs and tell what they are without a doubt

color-cause I shure like them black dogs(breeders choice)

im not saying color is at the top of the list but if i have good dogs throwen good dogs
offspring doing what they supposed to then I should be able to chose how i want them dressed

 

by all means if you have a number of dogs that are the complete package, that being strong, well structured dog that are highly driven, adgile keen workers, that will listen to you and do anything you ask of then without hesitation, long winded and recover quickly and are floorless in every way, go ahead and dress them as you will, but dont get blinded and leave out an outstanding individual just because his colour is wrong.
i worked on all the above with the exception of the colour bit for years and strongly believe i was gett'n there, but i dont believe anyone can honestly say they have everything in there dog. everyone has a little preferance that leans a little one way or the other, always have, always will. thats what everyone is trying to improve on lol.. there is less than a handfull of people that i know of that have bred a family of dogs that can attest to having a complete package and colour never came into it, but the bulk ended up a monority as it does the longer you breed a FAMILY
key word, FAMILY and that consists of all traits. they look the same , they sound the same, they move the same etc...
but if your up to that, go right ahead brother...

OFRN breedings are not done based on color- they are based on family. if you want a true OFRN breeding you breed an OFRN stud to an OFRN bitch.

be cause if memory serves me right an Ofrn has to display the red rednose color

so basicaly what Im saying is that if you start a rednose family off true Ofrn broods
but you decide to out cross to an family of black dog non Ofrn decent

the litter comes out even split you keep them all
upon trying them you find out the black dogs are showing true in function
so you decide to take this dog and keep him as an out to your blood
so you breed this 50/50 dog anbreed him to your best Ofrn females
and his off spring are great
so you tightin up on him that puts more of the black blood in to the line the you begin to notice more of a frequency of black off spring could this still be considered
A true Ofrn
I dont belive so cause it dosnt display the red/rednose of this family
and ounce you make the first cross and incorporate non ofrn blood it cant be full and
true to the norm

when it comes down to it people are doing their best to keep the blood alive but the fact is thats the best we can do. What we are gonna end up with is a different family of dogs, they may resemble OFRN but they are a different set of dogs. I havent seen a 100% OFRN not that im saying there isnt any. But its safe to say that there isnt many dogs you can just say, "yeah thats an OFRN". Some of people are close, though their dogs are hella inbred lol. If anyone has 100% i would LOVE to see them!!!
