Well if that was pre 1976, and it was a sactioned event, you wouldve lost your money over a panic bite. I'm not saying that anyone is wrong for not culling, I'm just stating my opinion. If your grabbing the dog on by the scruff and he turns and bites your hand when your another dog is infront of his face. I would cull, sorry.

I'm absolutely, positively 100% with you on that one. No tug here for the exact same reason. Doesn't matter what it is, as long as its in a human's hand it belongs to the human, dog lets go, no questions asked, no mistakes allowed, period.

No, simple re-direct, as long as he realized straight away and let go I would let it slide

Sorry dude its all in how you handle it. I have been bit I have seen people get bit if you take it go on about your night like it was a flea bite(Like a man) no one will loose any money. Ya got to be able to take the ivory to be a do man. Hell a lot of young dog will bite any thing that hits them when they crank up. Thats why they call it HANDLE YOU DOG. To The OP. NO I would not cull that dog I bet next time you will HANDLE him. not grab him. And I am responding to the guy that says you would have lost your money also . Thats just not true.

Right, this is kind of what Zoe was saying - the first is a redirect , the 2nd is an accident - two different things. The 1st is very undesirable, especially since there are so many dogs that will not do that no matter how heated it is(they stay completely focused on the other dog), but not necessarily grounds to pts. As others have said, I think most dogs that will do that would never think of biting you any other time/circumstance. Like JJJ said, you have to know the individual dog and how to handle it.

A simple misplaced nip that is released the second it happened? No. A dog who full-on redirects his aggression towards a human? He'd be dead before dusk.

Im guessing pre76 the most times you would see this happen is during schooling

but even in experianced dogs there had to have been some dogs that had to be handled and not just picked up

and I mean you betta hold that mutha fuka

In my opinion, a dog that redirects his frustrations or his anxiety enough to bite me during any kind of activity, does not have the solid temperment that I want in my program. I spend alot of time around my dogs as do many others. I do not wish to own any dog that redirects enough to bite his/her owner in any excited activity. I just can't do it

Yeah, I may cull the dog just for the simple fact that if the dog is engage in fighting and his focus came off the other dog and onto you and you stated that this has happened in the past too! I've seen and have had excite biters before and understand that this happens, but I don't think that this is what you have.

What i'm saying is that I wouldn't cull for the fact that the dog bit you, but for the fact that it was not focused on the fight! Maybe not the first time, but if it's a pattern, it's something to think about.

If you grabbed the dog behind his head and he had to turn and bite you then I may, as that would be a redirect and he shoud know better and may live if he let go asap, but if he tried to get me its his ass. If I put my hand in the wrong spot I would let him live.

Some people may let it slide and let the action continue. But you are perfectly in your rights to call it, and by the rules, you will lose. Alot of folks do let it slide, but the rules are rules. I hope you get what i'm trying to say Triple J.

sure, if it bites the other handler or ref. not if it bites you. ive never heard of a situation where a handler got bit by his own dog and was DQ'd.
