Im not saying to get a dog but it can work, you just have to be willing to do what it takes even if it costs money. I have a seperate account that I put money into for emergencies that could affect my dogs. Such as having to move off base.

Well after thinking it over, I'm going to wait until my 4 years is up until I get my APBT....that will give me plenty of time to get prepared for my dog and pick the kennel I want to get him from.

Does anyone know any kennels with Sorrels blood? I remember coming across this one kennel located in Florida that had this blood, and the a lot of the dogs were Black and tan. And the dogs reminded alot of an APBT/Staffie cross I grew up with. Any info?

At one base I was at EVERYONE had to live on base. At another base I was at you had to be an NCO (E-5) to live off base. E-1 through E-4 were required to live on base. If you were single you lived in dorms, if you were married you lived in base housing. So moving off base is not always an option.

And don't try telling them you want to live off base b/c of your dogs. They'll laugh at you. Then when they're done laughing they just tell you to find somewhere to put your dogs or to just get rid of them. If you do move off base w/out permission they'll bust you for "ghosting." (I know, I tried it.)

I was in the marines for four years. If your your single, they wont pay you BAH, if you dont have BAH, you cant afford to live off base. So, if your single youll have to live on base and your not allowed to have pets in the barracks.

If your married youll get BAH, youll live out in town, and when you deploy your wife can watch the dog if shes up to it.

All marine bases that i know of banned pit bulls including the three i was on in CA.

I've never heard of married guys being forced to live on base and I grew up in the Army and I'm now in the Air Force so I've seen to branches.

Try Kunsan AB, ROK & Columbus AFB, MS. Both force married people who are not NCOs to live on base (or they did when I was there). Heck, my husband was on station 12 years before he got permission to move off base at CAFB & the only reason he got permission then was b/c he made E-5.
