Does hand-boxing equal man biter?

My younger brother owns a pit bull (un-papered scatter bred rednose if that matters) that is a really sweet dog. She's sociable, is great around kids (my niece and nephews) and is obedient. The issue is that he used to play box with her when she was younger. She's about 1.5 years old now and seems to have broken the habit, but is the fact that she has done that kind of play be something I should be concerned about?

Thanks. My gut instinct says no, especially since this was when she was less than a year old.

not just that, its just in the dog and they are all different. playing and playfighting with your dog will not make it a man biter. ive been playfighting with my bitch for her entire life and she has never ever shown any signs of biting me or anyone ever .not even close. playfighting is just that, its play its a game, a real pa dog is not a biter for fun or play.
some people are pretty negative when it comes to playfighting with dogs bringing out dominant traits ect, but i think my dogs are smarter than that!

Age really has nothing to do with it.

  6. When you see or have a man biter you will know it for sure!

I do not play fight with my dog. I never make it a game to have my dog be aggressive towards me. There are other ways to play.

Thanks for your input. I've never really seen playfighting as being a bad thing, but I've never known if it was a bad habit or not.

The only reason I brought it up was because she might have been teething. I wasn't sure.

As a general rule, I don't play fight too much with my dogs. I rough their head up a little etc.. but I am not much into slapping them in the face or anything like that. I had a friend that did that to one of my dogs and it really pissed me off.
I enjoy a rough game of tug though and they really love it too.
IMO, if you are going to do it, do it to your own dog, and not someone elses and start when they are very young.

scooter sounds like your mates got a penis that hangs off his forehead.
i dont realy slap mine around at all its more just very light little taps if anything at all but its maily just shadow boxing, making contact thats pressured with the dog is just teasing it in my eyes and a good way to set yourself up for a nip.
when playing like that i make a huge deal out of it like im in pain if their is any hard contact made, and the dog is very apoligetic for it as she got older , when any contact is made that is hard by her mouth [by accident] she will stop the game straight away and kind of waits for mr to scream in pain. if its a game and they know they have hurt you they will be gutted , its fun they dont want to hurt you.
