No, Mexican music does not sound like polka, but some Mexican music sounds like polka. You have to consider that the use of the accordion especially in Mexican music trancends genre. Celso Piña plays mostly cumbia, a Colombian derived genre, others play Norteñas, Banda, etc. etc. but not all use the accordion and not all are faithful to traditional polka structures, but some are genuine polkas a la Mexicana.
