they can be built fairly cheap with some plywood and 2x4s

the only thing i see wrong with a kid pool is its lacking a shelf for the pups to prevent mama from laying on them in a corner

Shelfs are nice to have like WOODY said you could just build you a box out of ply-wood & 2x4's make sure to put a 2x4 all the way around the box for a shelf

what stops her from layin on em in the middle?
if you cant build or buy a whelpin box the kiddie pools work great for the first few weeks.

    O I C

ok so your talking about the 2x4s that are about 6-9 inches abouve the ground bordering the sides?

i thought you were talking about the covered corners on all four corners

i get what your sayin now,

have you ever seen a mother smother a pup even while using these?
i think it would help a lot, but accidents can still happen.

you stop her from laying on them in the middle:D...and yes, accidents can still happen, but a good mama plus your keeping an eye on em can prevent it most the time.

lol..i was bein smart...another thing i like bout the pools...they are big enough if pups are on the edge..GENERALLY speakin..the bitch aint layin anywhere near em when she gets in......i know daisy lays across from em and lets em come to her

you can make a whelping box easy.......ive only ever used once..but they are great....just make sure the bitch is used to it as her "own space" before the pups drop.....if she aint comfortable in it she will try and move from there....

It'll stop her from crushing the pups up against the side of the box, that's the biggest danger.I know a guy that raises bassethounds and those are bad about smashing pups, but with a shelf like that it really cut down on crushed puppies. They can still be smashed in the center but not as likely since there's room to move and be scooted around, but once they're up against the side, there's no give to the wall.Just ends up as a flat puppy without a shelf there.

  16. Aight thx fellas
