Game Bred Stock as Family Protection.

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Lakewood Dogger, Mar 10, 2010.

  1. i allways keep one or two dogs in the house..most are right about the apbt not bred for gaurding like rotts german shepards and like breeds but a dog is a dog and if put in a situation where they need to protect the family or house they can get down.. most peoples bulldogs would surprise their owner especially if the owners are gone..we all know that the apbt is basically the strongest breed of dog pound for pound even that little 30 lb bitch could put the hurting on a full grown man..

I have owned quite a few pit bulls. If I ever had one that would not protect me I would get rid of the dog. My wife and I both had personal protection dogs. If trained right they are not a danger to those who do not pose a danger to their owners. If they have to protect they do an outstanding job. A dog that will stand there and let his owner be harmed is not worth the feed for one day.

I would never look to my dog for protection, but stuff like schutzhund and french ring interest me from the competition aspect of things. I wouldn't mind getting a malinois or GSD for those types of things, I just like to compete!

If anyone else has some stories about their bulldog gettin down, i'll be glad to read it though lol I like reading about dogs gettin in someones ass. Some of mountain mans stories and zebo was interesting, but that aint exactly protection.

Agree with pretty much all that is posted, just sayin several 100 yrs of selective breeding tends to make our dogs less aggressive to humans than the Guardian breeds.....which is exactly the way I think I want them.

I hope mine would protect me if ever called for, but I hope as well it would go against what they were bred for to do it. I like to think as their pack leader it is my job to protect them. Can't agree more with depending on a dog to do this well by training them for it......

LMAO thats to damn funny ^^ . it seems to me that some dogs just have almost a "sixth sense" . then know when something isnt right or someone is there to harm you or your in danger . they can pickup on body language, and the smell and "signals" that people give off when there in danger especially when it is a house/family dog reguardless of the breed. i had a yorkie/rat terrier mix that was the nicest dog in the world and loved everyone when i got in a fight with a friend in my house argueing and what not my dog attacked him . the dog was about 14 puonds mind you LOL but he just knew somthing wasnt right after we threw some blows we laughed about the fact that that dog just knew what was going on and wanted to protect his best friend . gotta love it :)
