the problem is that dogs can climb fences as well so its still not entirely safe. maybe if you had a 20ft fence and wired it?

If you don't want to chain them then I'd recommend keeping them in 5x10 sky kennels. An 8ft fence isn't going to stop a determined dog. Not gonna happen

i know all too well that these dogs CAN climb fences and those chain link kennels, ive seen it alot.hell i watched a friends dog climb over a kennel and rip the hell out of his wifes cat,the only thing that may work for you is ot use a kennel and make a roof for it,but your dog will have more square foot of space on a chain than in a kennel

OK, then build a kennel with a roof, get a chair and sit outside with the dogs all day, get sued or dead dogs. You decide. The fence has been climbed once. It is no longer of use as far as containing your dogs is concerned. Build it to twenty feet high if you wish. If it isn't smoothe stockade, it's a waste of time and money.

I know from reading some posts of your's that this isn't what you want to hear, but the correct advice is a axle and a chain.Sorry if it's not what you're going to do but it's what works.Any reason you're anti chaining?Just curious. It beats a yard accident or the dog getting out and getting hit by a car.If all you have is a fence, the dog will get out if he wants out bad enough.

Next Post will be titled , "HELP DOG GOT LOOSE" didn't take chain advice, we don't chain dogs cause we like the look, its cost effective and practical , easy to set up, with proper hardware, and SFE FOR DOGS AND OTHER DOGS AROUND YOUR AREA.

I'd take the chain advise given.....;)

Well when your dog hit another dog or bite someone or child or the cops come knocking on your door you learn, there's all one way to keep your dog in your yard and alot of animal planet fans don't like it

if you did your research, you wouldnt be acting so suprised, ive heard of dogs scaling 9 ft fences with ease, so seven or eight foot is a waste of time. you either have a dog that jumps or you dont, one of mine will jump a six foot fence with nearly one clean jump, my other wouldnt even know what jumping over 3ft high was for, it just never figured out it could do it.
A book that is readily Availible in Australia is Richard Strattons, "the world of the american pit bull terrier" if you look hard enough youl find it in a book store, myers pet section has suprised me a few times id check there first. it retails at about$100 aus, and is fully worth it, it has Diagrams on chain setups with dos and donts, infact it probly will answer all the questions that you ask on here in there. Jacks book is better but i think you will find the stratton one easier in Aus.

or you could build a very expensive kennel run? i know what i would do, and i know what 99% of users here would do.
are we allowed to say "WE TOLD YOU SO"?

remember not to put the chain spot in a place where the dog can still jump the fence. he will jump the fence and hang himself and you will come home to a dead dog!

I have kept a few dogs in by placing the bars, like those on chain link fences, on top of the fence with 3-4 strands of barbwire. The bars should point in. Add an electric wire to the top, middle, and bottom, about 3 inches off the wire.
It will keep the normal dog in but won't work for a hot dog.

  19. Don't get too thick of a chain to hold the dog either. That is another warning sign nowadays for AC. Even though most have never known the strength needed to hold down a tru PBT, the neighbors will call and the first elements of the conversation will be a Pitbull on a thick chain.
