Wow bdub firstly word of advice if you are going to post things in a public open forum maybe you should be a lil more careful with your word play cause you sound real incriminating in your question to keep 2 pups out of a litter before even weaning and doing away with the rest in whatever fashion is bound to get you a visit from Diane Jessup or other humaniacs. Now I don't wanna bash bc you seem fairly new so take this as creative criticism, the best thing to do in your case is find you a local dogman not peddler and ask your question in an open environment not phone but truth is due to your last couple statements I wouldn't deal with you and probably not half the ppl on here so please wisen up a bit its bad enough our fraternity is slowly becoming endangered.

Now as far as breeding and culling I myself only breed if I'm wanting something out of a pair and the percentages are for the better of getting what I want but when I do breed never could I make a foolish mistake and try to pick 2-3 pups out the litter and try to gamble that they are true when under the minimum of 3 months old my advice even though space may be limited is to sit on them by any means( e.I. Friends house, fellow dogman, girlfriends, etc.) But do something to where you can keep a close eye on all as they mature sometimes some click early and show promising signs that may give hope then some may not its all in the beholders eyes as to what their priorities are but I would sit on an entire litter anywhere from 3-6 months so I can really feel out their own personal attitudes and whether I want to take a gamble or not but that's JMO

I don't think you need to know anything about breeding to know that it's bad to just breed 2 dogs, take 2 pups out of 6 and cull the rest just because you don't want to deal with placing etc.

just buy another dog and leave breeding to the experienced.

    best advice given until now

ps : if you want to breed, then keep all litter (or most of it) and wait, then hog hunt and cull or give away those that dont work.

Wow! This is a dumb thread. Do what you do! But if your going to cull the litter then just get them fixxed as pups and rehome. That's my personal preffered method of culling.

No I haven't but I respect your opinion and I really don't care if Pat Patrick himself did that shit it is still retarded. You don't have a litter of say 8 pups and toss 6 in the trash cause you didn't want them. Give them away, sell them, whatever but if you can't figure out what to do with the whole litter then you aren't ready to be breeding dogs. It is easy to give them away for free. At least they have a chance.

Get em fixxed rehome. No one will have the blood if they can't reproduce. Give them to folks that r into agility, conformation, weightpull ect. I'm sure there are folks besides dogmen that would have good use for a well bred dog.

I agree when fixed no dog can produce so the blood stays home

  8. When you produce any litter you MUST be willing to take care of them all other wise don't bred, as far as culling pups as I read this I think you are asking if it would be cool if your female had a litter and you picked out what you wanted and then "kill" the rest if thats what your saying just ask yourself does that sound right to you i don't care what other dogman did with there bulldogs that just doesn't make any since, if someone knows or heard of another dogman (famous or not) doing this still doesn't make it right.......jmo

gorilla is stating the truth. more(apbt) dogs need to be culled. unlike most on this board I don't think bulldogs should be pets. the average dog owner should not ever see a real bulldog let alone live next door to one.
I live near a town of a few thousand people. driving through this town today I saw at least 5 yards with "pits" tied up outside, all sh!t bred curs that never should have been born. one yard had 5 tied up not 15 feet from the street. how would you like to be someone walking their pet down this sidewalk with 5 dogs lunging on their chains trying to kill your pet? what good does this do the breed and the image of its owners? and before you say "irresponsible owners" these people show their dogs at ADBA shows, they ARE the typical APBT owner!!
I'll say cull those pups you don't want, even if they're well bred. if they are ill bred, cull them all and the mother too! there are WAY too many pitbulls in the world today, it does no harm to cull, a dead dog won't bite a kid or maul the neighbors dog.

  11. I have mixed feelings about this... firstly why even breed if you dont have the space. If you breed to get a prospect say females, then you need to keep all the females, same goes for males if your breeding and you dont even know what sex you want then I would keep waiting. I understand culling so there arnt a bunch of pitbulls running around and adding to our overpopulation BUT what are you going to do if you keep the two and they turn out to be curs? put em down? OR when you do breed have people in line friends/family or whatever to be able to pick up the slack on all the extra dogs.. thats jmo tho.

I TOTALLY AGREE! we need to start presenting a unified message about ownership and breeding to anyone involved with these dogs , berfore its taken out of our hands by authorities who couldnt give a damn about the wellfare of this breed.

If you cant keep all the pups then you dont have the luxery of breeding Period. idc if he lives in the city you shouldnt make a breeding if your going to kill 90 percent of the litter.. makes you look like the damn HS.
to the OP if you cant keep them all then no dont make the breeding you shouldnt own or breed these dogs if you cant care for them properly..idc about your situation this is the only truth...

How can you tell by looking at these dogs there "all shit bred curs"???
the truth is you cant just because you dont agree with how one man contains his dogs doesnt make them curs...95 % of well bred dogs wont bite a kid anyway...and who gives a fuck if the neighbors dog gets mauled if he walks into your dogs chain space? I have a friend i gave a pup about 2 and a half years ago who "mauled" the neighbors dog because the neighbors were irresponsible morons and they let there dog run loose...he ran into my boy's dog's chain spcae, got hurt, tucked tail and ran back home...the neighbors called the law they came told him he wasnt in any trouble since his dog was contained properly and took (the neighbors) dog..

That is certainly very true, but how in the hell can you tell at that age? You may very well being keeping the worst of the bunch. I see what gorilla is saying, but to me if that is all you can manage, then there are plenty of people with the space that you could get nice pups from. It would tell me that I shouldn't be breeding.

well said, the dreamers and fakers out there are only making life hard for those of us who have legal working dogs. Its like saying I like the way assault rifles look. So i am going to go get one to keep in my closet, and play with, even though I have no use for one and have never been properly trained or seasoned with one. This is not a joke or a game or anything to be taken lightly, people are getting in trouble and this ripple effect is devistating, ONE DAY WE WONT BE ABLE TO HAVE OUR DOGS BECAUSE OF THESE DREAMERS, go ruin some other way of life, more dogs do need to be culled

You people are sick! Even the currs deserve to live just not be bred. And all the agility dock diving and other sporting type folks would jump at a well bred athletic dog. Unless ur talkin box dogs or for breedin then curs ain't really useless.

oh ok well in my experience i've noticed that bulldogs come in all shapes and sizes.. maybe you consider any dog outside of your bloodline of preference a cur..but maybe theres also been historical dogs that resembled black mouth curs more then APBT that have proved bulldog LOOKING dogs cur..food for thought:cool:

i agree more dogs need to be culled and less people need to have bulldogs. At the same time i cant really understand the point of breeding and keeping 2 pups out of the litter. You just killed the percentages. I understand keeping the blood to urself but you need to make some partners that way u can exchange favors. Invest in some crates or something. IDK, i just dont really see the point. Make a good breeding then most likely cull the best out of the bunch. Its a percentage game.
