Bad smell & excessive gas..?

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by topmodel662, Apr 21, 2010.

  1. Bad smell & excessive gas..?

I have two 9month old Pits, and no matter how often i bathe them (once a week), and what i bathe them WITH (I've tried every soap/shampoo/deoderizing spray..even SKUNK REMOVER)..they still have a horrible odor, even RIGHT AFTER the bath. It's filling the whole house, especially anywhere they sit or lay. They also fart CONSTANTLY, and it is the worst smell you can imagine..I mentioned this to my friends, who suggested that I switch their food to Diamond brand, which I did over a month ago, and they still stink!! Can anyone offer ANY advice?..please?? :(

try washing them less. you can strip tha natural oils & stuff that are in there skin. & like others told you switch the food. don't mask the problem try to fix it. or maybe your dogs just stink?

I was told Diamond is the best. I didn't see sportsman pride.. what other brand should I use? I keep them in a kennel in the house bc they refuse to be housebroken.. They took classes, we work with them.. I don't know what's wrong with them.. But i wonder, does the fact that they stay in the cage most of the day have anything to do with it? They do excersize & spend a good amount of time outside, I just can't understand why they would smell this bad..??

You might need to leak their Anal Glands lol or have it done. If you buy Diamond make sure to get the All Natural chicken or lamb whatever works best for your dogs.

they piss on themselves in the cage, you prolley just dont see it because it dries by the time you see it, why have a dog if its just gonna be caged up? you prolley have a mange or yeast infection thing goin on, next itll be skin conditions

AS STATED.... They prolly piss in the cage.

Maybe you should consider finding a better home for your dog if you can't manage to house break them. living in that cage is no life for a dog no matter how much time they get to excersise. they need inter action. and the problem will not get any better by keeping them in the cage. Fix the problem or find the pups a new home. JMO. Good luck.

The guy never even mentioned that he crated his dogs, so why jump to conclusions and say your dogs pissin themselves in the cage and you should rehome?

It could be a number of things. Are your dogs littermates or related in any way? Some dogs are just naturally gassier than others just like some breeds of dog are more gassier. Try helping your dogs relax and eat their food at a slower pace, this could help. Maybe change the food, and feed more times a day instead of one dish if you don't already do this.

If the bathing hasn't worked don't do it anymore. It could be the dogs anal sacs which u could empty yourself or have your vet do it. It may be the dogs ears as well, and water would only make that situation worse. If the smell is that bad, just go to the vet. They will tell you if its a skin/coat condition or some kind of infection.

Switched my pups to diamond dog food and I like the results I'm seein out of them. More lean and less piles in their chain space to worry about.

9 times out of ten its diet, if its the anal glands, you dont want mess around with that sh*t you self(no pun intended) let vet sort it. its normally an over rich diet or high protien content, or food being to large to break down properly, causing the diigestion to work overtime. if the dogs are passing wind excessively as you stated , i would start with the diet and go from their.

They are only caged during a 4 to 5 hour period.. they do not have mange LOL. (smh)

  17. Re: Bad smell & excessive gas..?

The get PLENTY of interaction. And the reason I am posting this is to TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

  18. Re: Bad smell & excessive gas..?

I will ask the vet about the anal glands.. It doesn't sound like something I would want to try.. As for changing the food, the Diamond is what the vet reccomended..so wht would you guys suggest? Is there a better brand? ..and someone asked if they are littermates. Yes, they are. They are Kobe (or Colby..sp??) and Gator Mouth mix. Does that make a difference? Sn: have seen an improvement in their stools since the Diamond. I'm just really lost on what I should feed them because the coat quality looks better, they seem healthier..but the smell seems to have worsened. It's not like a sickly smell, or a piss smell as mentioned, but more like a bad meat type of smell..

  19. Re: Bad smell & excessive gas..?

And before I get bashed for the terminology used, this is what the breeder has listed the dogs as.. I'm not here to debate about what the dogs are called, or how f*cked up I am for crating them while I'm at work. The dogs are family pets, not show dogs..I just wanted an answer to the original question. No need to go off on tangents.

go back and reread the post... he crates them because they use the bathroom in the house...... first of , you gotta get those dogs to use the batroom outside ..... man i would go absolutely insane if my dogs couldnt use the bathroom outside
