WOW! OK, I'll take your word for it, But thats why I asked. I've only seen pics of the sport but don't have any actual experience. I thought Raven would be good for the sport but it seams I would have had to train her from a small pup. Well I've changed my mind about that. lol I guess she'll just have to stick with chasing cats and birds. lol She's never even seen a hog so if she did she would probably go crazy and get herself killed. I'll pass. I want to put her in a fun and not so dangerous sport.
What else is out there besides weight pull? I found a guy in Pennsylvania who wants to meet Candi and see if she has what it takes to compete. My brother gave me a very nice freight harness with the spreader bar 2 months ago that fits very well. She's been dragging around a tire ever since i got it. Before then I took her on long walks every night(about4 miles) So she is in pretty good shape.
So if you know of any other good sports for Raven please let me know.

Many different cross breeds are used for pig hunting in Australia, most having some type of bull terrier in the mix. A popular type is the Bull Arab (looks like a bigger more laid back Dogo). Although the APBT is as good a pig hunting dog as any, one complaint I've heard from people in the know is that some of the game bred lines tend to want to fight the pig rather than just lug(hold) it. Most so called tough pure bred dogs don't have the guts, speed or stamina for pig hunting and sometimes even the best get killed it' not a game.

Pitbullvr25, your dogs must be very solidly built for those weight to hieght ratios or maybe my bitch is too skinny?

i think people take the word game literally and lightly. being "game" is not a game

Anyone know if staffy's are still bred to be game. I know it's a frequently asked qu but i'm yet to see a good answer.

I cant see why they would not be somewhere in the world. essentially they are a small pit.

Staff's haven't seen a box in years. They are bred for the show ring and have been for some time now. Why would any dog man in his right mind take a show bred dog and want to breed that dog for the box just think about it? The APBT = Performance Bred/ Sporting Dog. Staff = Show dog. Gameness is not something that magically appears you have to be actively testing and breeding for it that would defeat the purpose to take a show bred Staff and put that dog in the box since those dog's are bred strictly for looks not gameness.

Not only are Staffs not bred for gameness, they are not bred for ANYTHING (no type of working purpose at all) besides looks. All an AmStaff has to do to be declared worthy of breeding is walk nicely in the ring and look pretty.

The Tacoma Line was developed through the breeding activities of Charles Doyle of Winamac Indiana. The great dog, Tacoma Jack, was whelped in 1927. He was owned by Al Brown. Using Tacoma Jack and Brown’s Judy, Mr. Brown produced a number of outstanding dogs. Several of these, including Tacoma Jack’s Replica, were sent to Charles Doyle. Using Tacoma Jack’s Replica and other Tacoma dogs, and with liberal infusions of Corvino blood through such great dogs as Corvino’s Braddock and Corvinos’s Shorty, Mr. Doyle produced a long line of courage and sound dogs. Some of the best included Ch. Young Joe Braddock, Ch. Doyle’s Tacoma Disaster I, Ch. Doyle’s Tacoma Disaster II, Ch. Kane Tacoma Blaze, and Ch. Tacoma All-A-Blaze. Ch. Tacoma Frivolous Sal, owned by Howard and Janice Hadley, won the National Specialty in 1954. Subsequently Tacoma crosses have been important in all other major AST lines.

Mr. Doyle, who was active in the National Club both as a board member and long-time Secretary, strongly believed in keeping the Staff as Game and Functional as possible. Of all the AST lines, the Tacoma dogs have easily the most outstanding record for courage and capability.

    Taken from:
The American Staffordshire Terrier (The Little Red Book)
    By Dr. Richard Pasco
    Printed in 1977

Al Brown's Tacoma Jack was registered with the ADBA, UKC, as a Pit and the AKC as a Staff.

I have heard of a staff x and a bull terrier being titled in a UK gamedog mag. Not positive though and I am not sure what the title was.
