    OH ENGLISH LORD..BTW...

thats not gameness, it's called "shock"...stupid ^%$# lol

  3. I would just like to impart with a bit of trivial information for you guys about cattle or bovines. Where our balance and the balance of a dog is in our ears, a cow or a bull's balance is in his nose. If you grab a cow or a bull over his nose with your hand and apply pressure, he will go lie down, having had his balance disturbed. Try it sometime. This is why the old Bulldogs of the day would attack the nose area and this is where the bullbaiter's of that time would prefer their dogs to attatch themselves to. So a bovines balance is disturbed through his nose and this is how bull pinning worked. Believe it or not.

I was referring to posts stating that it was the bulldog that brought gameness to the cross and not the terrier, I believe the dogs of today are gamer than any breed that walked the earth

  5. Yes I agree Damon, the dogs of today have certainly evolved and become better as time has past. There are a lot of dedicated people around the world that have these dogs now (thanks to you Americans that have shared them with us) that are working with this ancient breed to improve and better the breed despite all the controversy, hype and laws against them, designed to destroy us and the dogs. I'm positive that THE DOGS will continue to improve and flourish into the the future.

thats a great bit of info claidheamhor, every days a school day i guess. and have to say im enjoying this thread, im almost tempted to dream up some crazy new point of view on game dogs just to throw a spanner in the works and keep people that have been on so far posting stuff

  7. I don't think the original Bulldog was all that big either like most people think (if you look at old pictures of Bulldogs), I know that you guys in America have the American Bulldogs or the Johnson Bulldogs and the Standard American Bulldog that the people whom are breeding these dogs claim to be the most closely related dogs to the original Bulldogs that originated in the British Isles. It is quite interesting that the people of these dogs (The American Bulldog people) also look into the history of their dogs which appears to be very similar to the history of dogs that went into the makings of the Pit Bull Terrier only they didn't cross them with the White English Terrier to get the modern fighting dogs. They still claim that the Standard American Bulldog IS the original Bulldog, I don't know. What do you guys think?

    Claidheamhmor???

HOLD IT RIGHT THERE PLEASE....!!?? WHAAAAT?? I hope you're joking?

WHERE DID YOU GET THESE FACTS?....PLEASE SHOW ME DATA ON THIS...

I have NEVER heard of this and am ashamed to say that, considering I have raised cattle for a good part of my life!! (even worse, I raised mostly all bulls for rodeo) and I have NEVER heard such a thing

The inner ear is the innermost part of the vertebrate ear and in mammals(cattle included), it consists of:
The cochlea, which is dedicated to hearing...AND...
The vestibular system, dedicated to BALANCE
The inner ear (cochlea and vestibular)is found in ALL vertebrates

    With upmost respect...I call BULLSH**....lol
Please, if you would be so kind as to show me where you found this info?

    Thank you

so are you saying its equilibrium is in its nose? lol Then I guess a guys equilibrium in in his nuts then cause I'm sure you could put them on the ground using them. Whats next? There's always some funny shit on here. lol

  10. lol, bqblok68, thats funny. I got this information from a cattle farmer during a similar conversation over Bull pinning that we're having now. Wether its true or not, I don't know, I'm not a cattle farmer and I know not much about cattle but he was convinced that this was so and I chose to believe him. Maybe if there's someone on here that has cattle, maybe they could test the theory out on one of their calves maybe.

W.T.F claideamhmor ??, ive been running round the fields of ireland all yesterday trying to grab big angry bulls by the fcukin nostrills !!.. guess what! it doesnt work! but guess what it does do! apparently it makes them a little randy. ill never walk properly again.. lol:D

You can grab cattle by sticking you fingers in thier nostrils and squeezing and lead them or bring them down. Its not because of thier equilibrium though. Its just a sensitive part of the body.

Not.......put a ring in it or a twitch on it and he'll do what you want because the pain from it ripping through his nose if he doesn't comply is the other option,...doesn't have shit to do with balance.

As for gameness,.....seriously now,...earth dog/terrier people define it their way, pit dog people define it their way,...and guess what....they're both right depending on where you are and what you're doing. Considering the fact that the word's been around in one form or other for a thousand years.....yeah, that long.....no one gets to define it for anyone else. It means what it means in your particular world at that particular time,.......and frankly, claiming that one type of gameness is the greatest and gamest of all gameness is pretty silly. After all, how the hell would you know? Hey! I know what we can do! How about we find a country where its legal-some of you terrier people bring some of your most dog-aggressive earth dogs and set 'em down;......meanwhile we'll bring some proven forty-pounders and let them draw a few 120 pound badgers,.......if we can ever find any. That should settle it.

im from dublin pal, yeh thers still game dogs alright, pitbulls, working wheatens[not kc reg] working glen of imaals and of course staffs. most of the staffs in this country are kc reg crap but there are a few real ones kept in small pockets around the country . i know i might open a can of worms with people screaming from the rooftops that there is only one real game dog but to those people ide tell them to read highroadhikers post, i think its the best post ive read on what defines a dog as game

  19. Ahhh the south, you'll be alright then. I'm so glad there's still dogs in the place where they originated from. Hows the law regarding the dogs and fighting there?

none of the dogs mentioned above are ileagal to own in ire but its ileagal to match them or do certain types of field work with them. i.e the way these dogs used to be tested before the badger trials were made ileagal around the early 70s i think
