wow...didn't know we had to have everything perfect in our setups and the way we do the dog game to post on here...

new house=new sets of variance and complication

I figured out that I wasn't truly testing the chain out since I pulled some from underground came out, but only about 6 inches and the rest was firmly set in...thanks guys

dont trust the swivels that come on those earth a

Your right, but i always keep my chain spots raked clean of the lose debris that like to cause the chains to tangle. And i only have the top of the axle exposed on a few of my spots, because they get moved around from time to time, and i dont want to dig them up every time i move them. And my dogs are seldom home alone, and if they are its not for very long. But yes you are right the best way is to have the anchor buried.

I have seen dogs grab a chain with their teeth and pull up. I would use concrete if I had loose soil.

i hear yah there mine get moved all the time so i like them above ground and rake often, if it starts smelling like urine, i just hose with bleach, if it still smells after that, just move them over, male spots are the worst tho it seems, there should be a neutrolizer for the amonia smell for dogs urine

i dont dig at all just hit the axle all the way in to the ground with a sledge hammer no way its going to move at all

here's another idea for ya:get an 8-10 ft piece of pipe and drive it 4 ft into the ground with a sledgehammer drop an o ring on it and put a muffler clamp about a foot from the top.i hook my chain set-up to the o ring and the clamp keeps them from jumping the pole.been using this setup for years, never had a problem.

Far as this getting wrapped around these earth anchors, I have used this setup for the last couple of years with no problems what so ever but I also bury my earth anchors a foot underground then as I fill in the dirt I keep the chain centered as I fill in. I have never had one break, never had one get wrapped or any problems at all. In terms of being made cheaply I don't quite understand that, because the ones I use are a solid piece except for the bottom of it where the auger is and the welds are clean. I use one similar to this here same company except I use the larger ones.
http://www.shadeusa.com/Earth_anchor_hands.gif I use two quick links on the connection to the earth anchors, I rust them on the old school way and I also use a lap link as well with no swivel at all on the anchor to chain connection only chain to o ring only.

gorilla i dont think u read it properly i said i hit the axle all the way into the ground ..meaning the chain is attached to it and then burried by the force of the hammer u cant even see the top of the axle it just looks like the chain is coming out of the ground never had any problems with it

whats the go digging holes ??? this only weakens the ground. i use a sledge hammer to knock the axle in the ground ive had over 40 dogs at one stage with no accidents at all.

AMEN. Sledge that mofo. Put a nice big O ring on it first though. And be sure to use swivels on the chain at the collar and at the axle.
