I was wandering what your thoughts about Cajun Rules vs other systems being used across the world. Pros & Cons. These are the rules that have been made for South Africa. Let me know your thoughts.

PIT BULL BREEDER’S DIGEST TITLE SYSTEM

It has become necessary for the Pit Bull Breeder’s Digest to act as a mediator for titles in the Pit Bull Fraternity. For a very long time, South Africa has adopted different standards for titles for Bulldogs from all over the world from different areas in the game.

For the game to continue and to have a common understanding of what “Good” looks like. The digest has taken it upon itself, with consulting with other dogmen to develop and define a title system for Bulldogs that will be recognized and upheld by the Digest.

As an introduction the digest must first explain it’s beliefs and share the standpoint. We are trying to lead the rest of the world with a benchmark system that is the most accurate and fare, but still leave enough room for choice and for specific kennel management. This also includes that the Digest realize that people do not want to publish all their achievements and breeding, and also that all kennels and breeders have different motivations for being in this sport and has a different methodology of improving the breed.

So it is the Digests belief that the most accurate system in determining producing dogs would be to calculate percentages. To calculate how many winning dogs any male or female can produce per litter as a percentage measurement. The dog with the highest percentage will be the top Producer. The only problem a pure percentage system is that it relies on total honesty. Unfortunately this allows for the system to be manipulated. Even if the Digest will only accept numbers from a recognized registration body, it still rests on the shoulders of the breeder(s) to be honest.

To overcome this problem the Digest has decided to still use the percentage method as a base, but to convert that back to a number, based on a law of averages. The general consensus is to allow those average numbers so as to be considered good for a title.

To start off this title system one must start at the very beginning, it is difficult to know what came first, the chicken or the egg. Either way, we decided to start of by defining “What an earned title is and what is not, in the sense of performance”. The reason for this is to measure a dog’s ability to produce. So without further ado here we go.

For All Performance Titles the Cajun rules will be used with the exception that you MUST “SCRATCH to WIN”. The Digest will not condone any cur being the winner of a match between 2 game dogs in order to determine the gamer of the 2 dogs.

Also the referee must be a recognized referee by the digest. (This to follow)

WINS: A win is defined as:
Every win over another dog counts for 1 point.

LOSSES: A loss is defined as:
A dog that lost the match under the rules set out by the Digest and has not cured.
A loss be counted regardless of handlers error, disqualification or other mitigating factor.

QUIT: A quit is defined as:
A dog that has stopped fighting is declared the looser of the fight because he cured or stopped or quit.

    POINTS:
A dog gathers points for the amount of wins over his opponents at any given time.
Points are only measured for wins and do not include losses.
    Points are subtracted for Quits.

    Example:
If a dog is a novice the winning dog collects 1 point.
If a dog beats a dog that is at that point in time a 1-time winner he collects 2 points.
If a dog beats a dog that is at that point in time a 2-time winner he collects 3 points.
If a dog beats a Champion or a three-time winner he collects 4 points.
If a dog beats a Champion and at that stages a 4-time winner he collects 5 points.
If a dog beats a Grand Champion or a five-time winner he collects 6 points.

    Example 2:
If you beat a dog with no wins and a loss, you collect 1 point.
If you beat a dog with 1 win and 1 loss, you collect 2 points.
If you beat a dog with 2 wins and 2 losses you collect 3 point.

    Example 3:
If you beat a dog with no wins and a quit, you collect 0 points.
If you beat a dog with 1 win and 1 quit, you collect 1 point.
If you beat a dog with 2 wins and 2 quits, you collect 1 point.
If you beat a dog with 2 wins and 1 quit, you collect 2 points.

    CHAMPION.
A Champion will be any dog that has:
    •Beaten at least 3 opponents.
•Has not lost more that 2 matches.
•The minimum points needed are 4.

    Examples:
•If you beat 3 novices you still have 3 points, not enough to make a champion so you will need to beat at least another 1 novice.
•If you beat 3 x 1xwinners, you have 3 points and 3 wins and you will be awarded the title F Champion.
•If you beat a 2xwinner, and 1 one-time winner you will have 3 points, however you do not have enough points or wins for a champion, you must beat at least another novice to become a champion.
•If you beat a 3-time winner, and 2 novices you will have enough points and wins, and you will have the Champion title awarded.

    GRAND CHAMPION.
A Grand Champion will be a dog that has:
    •Beaten at least 5 opponents.
    •No more than 2 losses.
•Once the Grand Champion Title is obtained it cannot be lost.
•Must have a minimum number of 6 points for this title.

    Examples:
•If the dog has lost his first match and wins 5 matches after that he can still obtain this title but he must have enough points.
•If a dog wins 5 novices he does not have enough points even if he has won 5 matches. He must win over at least another novice to obtain this title.
•If a dog beats 4, 2-time winners he has 8 points but he needs at least 1 more win against a novice dog in order to be awarded this title.

    EXCEPTIONAL GRAND CHAMPION:
An Exceptional Grand Champion will be a dog that has:
    •Beaten at least 7 opponents.
•Losses cannot be between his first 5 wins.
    •No more than 3 losses.
•Once the Exceptional Grand Champion Title is obtained it cannot be lost.
•Must have a minimum of 12 points to obtain this title.

    DOUBLE GRAND CHAMPION
A Double Grand Champion will be a dog that has:
    •Beaten 10 opponents.
•His losses cannot be between the first 5 wins.
    •No more that 4 losses.
•Once the Double Grand Champion title is obtained it cannot be lost.
•This dog must have a minimum of 15 points to obtain this title.

    Appearance of the Title
The above performance titles will be awarded to dogs stating the ranking system applicable. There will be dogs rated from highest to lowest in different categories of performance.

The titles will look as follows.
It will be the prefix of the title with the number as seen below:

    Champion
    1.Dewald’s CH(5) “Bismarck”
    2.Dewald’s CH(4) “Mocke”
    Grand Champion
    1.Dewald’s GRCH(9) “Bismarck”
    2.Dewald’s GRCH(6) “Mocke”
    Exceptional Grand Champion
    1.Dewald’s EGCH(14) “Bismarck”
    2.Dewald’s EGCH(12) “Mocke”
    Double Grand Champion
    1.Dewald’s DGCH (18) “Bismarck”
    2.Dewald’s DGCH (15) “Mocke”

There might be other reasons why a dog will not qualify for a title like the amount of losses, but he can still gather points for wins and hence he can be higher ranked under his current title than a dog with the same title, hence the addition of the number.

This concludes the performance titles for the Digest. Following on this a dog can qualify for a production title based on the above performance criteria.

For the production titles we have used the below averages to relate a number back to percentages.
A female will deliver an average of 6 pups per litter.
We have estimated that for proper kennel management a stud delivers the same amount per breeding.
A female dog will have an average of 10 breeding in a lifetime
A stud dog will have an average of 15 breeding in a lifetime.
A female should produce 60 pups in her lifetime
A Stud should produce 90 pups in his lifetime.
This system allows for 50% of pups going missing, dying, or as pets.
    Win rate of 40% calculated.

Producer of Record (POR) – means that the dog has a very good record for producing winning dogs.
Register of Merit (ROM) – Means the dog has a very good record for producing performance titled dogs.
For what we consider as a Producer of Record (POR) we have calculated a 20% win rate of all dogs produced.
•There might be a number of reasons why a dog can only produce offspring with a certain amount of wins but fall just short of titles.
•A female will need 12 wins for her offspring to qualify for this title.
•A male will need 18 wins to qualify for this title.
•This title is based on percentages and a dog can obtain this title under special circumstances, but only if it can be proven, that the dog has indeed produced a 25% win record.
•This system allows for 50% of pups going to homes as pets, dying etc.
•Points are calculated exactly the same as the above points system.
    •1 Point for every win.
1 point to be deducted for a quit.
    •Losses have zero influence.
For a Register of Merit (ROM) a dog has to produce at least 5% titled dogs.
•Minimum points for this title to be 3 for females (5%)
•Minimum points for this title to be 4 for males (5%)
    •Point system defined as below.
    •1 point for a Champion
•2 points for a Grand Champion
•3 points for a Exceptional Grand Champion
•4 Points for a Double Grand Champion.

You can obtain both POR and ROM titles. ROM basically means you are a POR but not necessarily.
The POR system is purely designed to award wins as per the points system whereas ROM is awarded for titles achieved.
The POR system is designed to award a dog that does not necessarily produce titled dogs but winning dogs.
The ROM system is designed to award dogs the title of producing dogs with winning titles.
A kennel might find itself choosing between the titles of POR and ROM.
Hence, kennels that manage their breeding carefully might only qualify for the title of POR whereas they might never qualify for ROM due to certain circumstances.
Another kennel might opt to produce a number of titles through mass production and eventually obtain ROM title but never the POR title.

    Title appearance:
POR will be accompanied by a number as seen below:
    1.Dewald’s “Bismarck”POR (35)
    2.Dewald’s “Mocke” POR (30)
    ROM
    1.Dewald’s “Bismarck” ROM (10)
    2.Dewald’s Mocke” ROM (4)
And finally a combination of both titles.
    1.Dewald’s “Bismarck” POR, ROM (35,10)
    2.Dewald’s “Mocke” POR,ROM (30,4)

Because this system is designed on a percentage, special circumstances will be allowed for kennels that can prove the validity of their percentages and the title of POR and ROM will still be awarded, but will be accompanied by an Asterix (*). The asterix will be accompanied by a percentage to indicate both performance titles and the record of the dog.

    food for thought..........

But i'd prefer police gazette rules that state a dog would have scratched into a dead dog. This produced better offspring that could finish. Dogs could have been bred prior to championship campaigning so to protect the line. JMO

Dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 due to the 2007 Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act. The federal Animal Welfare Act prohibits the interstate transportation of dogs for fighting purposes.

Just a quick once over. But i cant respect the rules of when is a dog a ch.. or gr.ch..

imo A ch should never had lost.. same goes for gr.ch if a dog has lets say 10 wins.. and his first los was after his 4th win.. to me he's just a ch. 10 time w 1 L

    also.. EXCEPTIONAL GRAND CHAMPION ??

i believe with a system like this you will give the rats far more change to cheat the game. we all kno how alot of people are title blind.

    why is 3xw special.......CH?

    or 5xw ........Gr CH?

Old rules were far superior. Folks rush for 3 wins to prove their dog. But a dog can prove his worth in less time against stiff competition.

A 2xw could have ruin his chances of CH but proved his worth. Conversely a 4xw could excite folks but not earned his worth.

Had to come back on it agean.
Sorry but with rules like this you only will create a mickey mouse competition.
Not even trying to be funny.

The special thing about a Grand Championship is that there isnt 1 loss recorded.
With these rules a gr.ch can have 2

To me thats the same as winning a NBA title without playing a best of 7 finals

    Nice feedback
It does make sense what you say about no losses
What about how the point system works?
Does that not steer towards better dogs because your dog has to beat better opponents to be ranked higher?

back in the old days a champion could loose and still be a champion . but a grch could not loose 1 or he is not a grch . and if he did he went back to being a champion . but no quiters .

I think a loss would not mind for a dog as long as he wins 3 in a row with out losing to get the Ch Titel, jmo
A Gr Ch should never lose indeed.

To awnser Budgee, i think that rule has a verry good side..

to be honest i have to agree with old goat on this 1.
No matter a dog is a 8xW Gr ch if it lossed it's next show, it is no longer a Gr CH.

But i was thinking puur in theory offcourse pre 76, let's say a dog is a 1xL because of bad handling or a bad judgement call.
That said dog wins his next 5, let's say 2 were over the 90 min mark and a win over a Ch offcourse, would that dog because of the old standard not to be called a Gr Ch but a Ch ?
Altough he won his next 5 in a row over some serious competition ?

  16. Elmo

Gr.ch title means NO losses. thats why a Gr.ch dog should get so much respect.
1L can still be a great dog. just not a Gr.Ch simple as that.

But on this subject a GRch must not have lost any matches and if your dog or dogs are that great an your breeding program is produceing great match an winning dogs an I know this will i ask for for a breeding.

  18. The title is Cajun Rules. Is the aim of a match not to give both contestants the oppertunity to quit?

What is your opinion on a scratch to win rule? IMO a dog must claim his victory by scratching, if he doesn't what do you call it? A No Contest...?

if it's your turn to go and you don't it's over . the only reason to scratch to a down dog if it's your turn . there has been times when before 76 that it's was your time to go and you did'nt and the other did'nt either . but if it was your turn you lost . that's why it's scratch in turn .
