VACAVILLE —A Vallejo police officer won't face charges after he shot and killed a pit bull in a Vacaville neighborhood.

It was a heartbreaking event to witness for 15-year-old Sierra Blaylock, who describes her dog, Carli, just after Carli was shot. "She tried getting back up and running away, but she couldn't do it." She says her pet was just trying to play with other dogs, and that the police officer probably took that as aggressiveness.

Vacaville police have investigated the incident, which happened a week ago. Investigators say the off-duty cop was out with his wife and three dogs, when Sierra's dog attacked. The family disagrees.

"I'm outraged. I just think it's so wrong. It was so excessive. There was no reason," says Sierra's mom, Leticia Clark. She believes the officer took a huge, unneccesary risk, firing his gun in a neighborhood full of kids, including her own. "Just because he's an officer doesn't mean accidents can't happen," she says.

Sierra says the distance between her and where her dog when it was shot, was one house-length, but Lieutenant John Carli says the officer didn't put anyone at risk, "The shots that were fired were in close proximity to the actual officer and not in the direction of people."

Still, neighbors were shocked. "My dog does the same thing," said Matt Schlief. "So it kinda makes me feel like if, hey, my dog ever happened to accidentally get out and run toward someone, is he going to get shot?"

"Knowing that she lost her dog and she witnessed it, is really sad," says neighbor Elain Go, "and I don't think any child or any animal should have to go through that."

Sierra says she felt so alone, and didn't know what to do. "She looked up at me once. She couldn't again."

I saw this on the news last night.

It's very unfortunate and in my opinion, shouldn't have happened. The idiotic idea to use deadly force for a DOG in the midst of neighborhood children should be enough remove that officer from the police force. This incident shows his judgement is questionable. On the flip side, the dog shouldn't have been loose in the first place.

It's sad that she had to see her pet killed. But come on you own an APBT the public don't like these dogs,an any person that see's a pitbull coming at them or their dog is going to shoot it if they have a gun.

A few years ago down the street from my house A cop was on foot pursuit of A robbery suspect. The their jumped into A back yard that was patrolled by an APBT. The cop jumped the wall after him and ran into the dog that was jumping against the wall where the theif had jumped. The cop ended up shooting and fatally wounding the dog that was protecting his home. The courts said it was "JUSTIFIABLE". The owners of the dog had A huge picture placed on A sheet plywood and it said something like...killed for doing his job. I can't remember the exact words but those are pretty close to what was placed next to his picture.

this makes me so angry. id choke that guy blue with my barehands cop or not. we spread "democracy" to countries ran by police and secret police... the police are the only ones with power in our country, it seems they make the rules and laws, not the people.

  10. If that was my dog he shot, he better be quick and shoot me too cause my dogs are part of my family and i'd f**k him up!

  12. thats VacaVille for you. If you are walking a Minnie Schnauzer, Lhasa Apso, you are in the in crowd. if your dog came off the leash and ran loose you best believe they are taking pictures and posting em up on telephone poles and in front of supermarkets. So thanks Off duty Cop. Just plain Jerk Move.

Keep your damn animal on a leash or in its chainspot or in the house. You have public enemy number one, protect it.

    best reply on this thread.

is it sad that her pet was shot? yes it is. but like ShakaZ posted, owner responsibility to keep their APBT CONTAINED. i feel bad for the dog that it had owners who couldn't manage their dog properly, not for the owners who were irresponsible with their dog.

both parties involved are to blame IMO. pit hating cop shoots pit, irresponsible owner gets theyre dog killed over a dumbass mistake they made.

classic case of these dogs being in the wrong hands.
