Do a mock keep on the dog!
Drop his weight with a combination of increasing his work times and decreasing his feed lightly. Should take you a good month to get the proper weight on him. Gauge his stength by the way he pulls on his walks!

every one has their own opinion on this but i think that it is better to keep your dog a pound or a bit more under his show weight and then bring him up to his weight instead of being a big 50 pound dog and feeling strong and then losing all this weight and feeling weak ,just my opininion

Why on earth would you EVER want your dog under show weight? And I def wouldn't keep my dog that skinny, hope you never get a visit from animal control...

isn't show weight the lowest weight they can be without losing strength? Can't see a benefit and keep a dog lower than that but I'm just talking about owning dogs in this day in age. I'm scared to have dogs that are adba show ready on a chain in case someone sees them

tnx guys. I feed my dog two cups of dog food, twice a day, plus vit n minerals. the dog food contains 27g of protein. I'm planing to switch to raw food since i've red in the other treds that raw is good. by the way my dogs weight on chain is 36lbs. his ribs are slytly showing up. I'm walking him 1 hour a day. 4 to 5 times a week. wat u think bout this sir? tnx. God bless. :)

    Post a pic of him.
Remember...don't starve him down! Keep note on how strong he pulls on his walks.

drop the dog down till you see a hint of ribs and a hint of the hips on him/her. the key is not to much or it will look starved. play with the dog and give it a mock keep like someone else said to get the feel of it to know the exact conditioned weight, but that is it basically in a nut shell for you. 5-7lbs is ideal off the dog IMO.. if you got to bring the dog more than that to reach a conditioned weight you were feeding way to much to begin with IMO.

I am by no means an expert on this subject. All dog are different some condition easier then others my best advice is ...

There is more to conditioning a dog for show then at the food bowl. It takes lots of work on you part and the dogs part, mostly yours :)

Get on a good work out schedule, set a time to work your dog and stick to it, feed at the same time ideally after the workout and rub down and the dog has had ample time to cool off.

Keep notes on your workouts and feedings.

Praise and encourage dog to help build his/her confidence and make them eager to please you, Confidence shows in the show ring. I have to say that I love how Boogies dog are always so confident in the show ring you can tell by watching them work the ring that he has a close relationship with his dogs and the dogs stand proud and Bronson will tell ya about it.....lol

Each new dog is a learning experience that is why it is good to keep note and if you have more then one dog you are working the notes come on handy. Like I know from my notes that once Nikki is at her show best not to give her salmon I swear it makes her retain water but she is the only one so far I have found this with.

Okay I am done rambling :)

PS...For Pete sakes do not allow the dog to fall below show weight, if a dog is too thin and has nothing to burn for energy it will start burning muscle mass and that is the last thing you want, all your dogs hard work will just go down the drain.....IMO
