some old timers worked on the mouth while in a keep. and im just sayin wether its necessary or not, if you wanted to you could prob get a dog to be able to bite harder and hold it longer. if you dont want to then dont, but it is possible to help them literally be able to bite harder and hold longer. possible and necessary i guess are getting mixed up, but it is possible, not necessary?

There is no way to tell. You ever seen them shows where they go around measuring all kinds of different animals bite? They measure pounds of pressure per square inch or w.e. Well, the problem with that is you never know when your animal is biting the hardest... Your dog off the chain or in keep... you may never get him to bite half as hard as he does when he is engage in real combat. And even in combat, he could use different amounts of force at different times. Its all at will.

I dont know about a stronger bite, but I had a hell of a time keeping my dog from facing off with hogs...it took time to teach him how to relax, work an angle and to not let his legs and tail just hang out everywhere....the most benaficial thing to me was teaching him to slow down and relax...by doing this I had a longer winded dog, with a more effective bite....and less injury

I you want to do good by the dog and get him in a little better shape, give the spring pole a break for a bit and dont cut the walks shorter....if anything, when youre working him hard walk him longer..

A dog either wants to bite hard from the get go or it doesn't. Bottom line!

thats a fact but most dogmen help their prospects by increasing neck power.......most common is a weighted collar or heavy chain. It is proven to aid the deliverly of what ever bite the dog posesses.

I have read over the years about this subject and I beleive it was Don Mayfield who used to give his prospects raw leg bones to dismantle as he beleived it was the best way to teach them how to increase their bite strength. If a dog becomes accustomed to cracking raw bone it increases their chances of doing more serious damage in the box when it counts.

Don't quote me on this one, just throwing it out there from memory.

walk, walk, walk and walk is important but for me I add spring pole like a said it give the dog a mouth work, it also helps the neck and the back ends of the dog plus if u use nylon rope ur helping ur dog to clean his teeth "since my dog don't like toothbrush" plus its also a bonding time and a reward for ur dog. but don't over use the spring pole. I did that and the result is my dog lost power to his bite. so maybe u can use it atleast 3x a week. let ur dog mouth rest. ;)

But how accurate is that? How much of a difference will there be between a dog that was enticed to bite a poll in comparison to a dog that is fighting for its life and biting to kill

Its like asking all of us to punch a heavy bag... and then using that as a measuring stick in a live combat situation where we fight for our lives with crazy adreneline and trying to kill another with a blow. The results probably will be nothing like the original measure on the bag.

not to mention my apbt may bite harder than yours and vice versa...no dog is the same... these results would be better say if they used 10 difffrent dogs from the same breed , i guarantee that bite force could fluctuate 100 pounds of pressure

i think we mean to measure bite power before the keep, and at the end of the keep. the bite in the fight would prob of course be way dif.
